Tomorrow is the big day for my eibach prokit install finally, and today i called around to get prices on a spring compresser, well which do i need a coil compresser or a strut compresser, the guy on the phone said i need strut? Please let me know what i need. they will be closed tomorrow so id hate to rent the wrong thing today. THANKS

Strut compressor? Man you need a coil spring compressor. If the guy your calling dont know the difference then buy it somewhere else.

haha, thanks. i figured it was a coil compresser, i just wanted to make sure before i try to do it and get pissed cause i rented the wrong thing. haha.

on the How To thread, the person describing says you need a coil strut compresser? lol what do i need???? haha

coil spring compressor

and you'll probably want to order an extra set of rear endlinks, because unless you're very talented you may end up having to cut yours off

the guys helping me is a local mazda owner, Mazdamaniac5 is his name on here, he said he has done it a couple times and is pretty sure we can do it without damange, or at least i hope so. haha.

all i did was disconnect the top center bolt on the sturt, so the strut came through the spring and used a jack under the strut and let it decomprss it self, saves a lot of time. of course you have disconnect everything from the strut, but you have to do that anyway.

well, I wasn't talented enough, although my car (protege at the time) had been through a winter or two before I installed my springs

There are 2 types of spring compressor (generally). One's for strut-type suspensions, the other is for shock / spring suspensions (like on trucks, where you see the springs separate from the dampers.

You need the strut one. if you have a harbor freight near you, they have an AWESOME one for like $8. Just use WD-40 to keep the threads lubed or you'll fry them (that goes for any compressor really...)

Well you could do that.....But if you wanted you head smashed in by a flying object it might be easier to go play in traffic....

Back in my younger days we did a set of springs with home made compressors (case we were young and stupid) Well long story short they broke sending the strut mount into the wall.....literaly

aMaff is right there are two types, and the one you need is the strut spring compressor. The hooks are different between the two. Yea its great to own a pair but they can be rented for free at Autozone. (Obviously with a deposit).

honestly the autozone ones are crap. They 'block' hooks are HUGE and suck for the tightly wound springs on these cars. Getting decent compressors will make the job go from a huge pain in the ass, to not a really big deal.

When azeli & I did my eibachs we didn't use a spring compressor. The stock P5 springs are really soft.

I pushed down on the spring while Eli undid the nut. Was it safe? not really.
