Spraying lubricant behind folding mirror

So someone clipped my folding mirror when passing a few years ago. Most of the time it won't retract fully unless done manually. I've sprayed with silicone wd40 but only partially retracts. I have some Houdini lock spray, thinking about trying that a week after the silicone, thoughts?

I don't think different lubricants will do anything. Something internally is more than likely damaged, and will need to be replaced for functionality to return. They are plastic gears inside that wear out over time I would guess it stripped something.

The retracting mirrors have been a pain in the neck in my car since about a year after I bought it. I've evenn replaced the the driver side and its still hit and miss.

It actually works against after spraying 3 days ago. Im also gonna spray the pivot park underneath mirror then after winter both spots with Houdini lock spray. FYI Houdini is great in old locks

If it's clamped down too tightly, it's very likely that the internal gears or mirror motor are slightly misaligned, so spraying with detergent will only help to some extent. Houdini might help loosen the parts a bit, but I recommend being careful when mixing the products.

Well, I'm happy that you've managed to answer your own question.

Hi,
I got rid of the problem using this spray, see attached, it protects components from moisture, but you need to remove the glass and spray straight where is the small whole with all the cables going.
Hope it will help. And one advice, do not spray high pressure water on mirrors while you are washing the car.
