Spied: Mazdaspeed 3!

Any way you look at it, the sedan and hatch are not the same car.

Last time I checked they were both called the Mazda3. It's the same car with a different body. That's the way I look at it. The Mazda6s and the Mazda3s, those are two different cars.

it will be too much to make 2 models and therefore Mazda will only make one. I'm pretty sure. It most likely will also be the 4 door.

Agreed ^^^

also take into account that the Mazda3 is the predecessor for the Protege, a Sedan based car only avaiable in a 4 door version. So in keeping with the Protege tradition, and the Mazdaspeed way, i do beleive it should be the sedan that gets the Mazdaspeed treatment. My .02

The mazdaspeed tradition? They've only been making Mazdaspeed labeled cars for two years. I'd hardly call that a tradition.

I think the hatch is the better looking of the two cars, and hopefully they'll go with it. I mean traditionally special models are sedans, but rarely is the sedan the better of the two versions (better as in considered better by mazda because of only the 2.3 being available)

If it's a hatch, I might have to start thinking about trading my engine in for a new one. Hahaha, you thought I was gonna say trade my car in, didn't you? I'm a tricky bastard. Wootang.

i said Protege tradition and the Mazdaspeed way.

I just gave my opinion.

and who said anything about the Miata...lol

there are too many turbo'ed sedans. we need some turbo/ super hatches.

isnt that POS VW R32 turbo?

What about the new Subura Legacy wagon? Do they make a WRX wagon?

eh the hatch has 4 doors too, no?

If you've been paying attention all of the hatchback owner's have been calling their cars "5-doors", as does Mazda.

I love the way the 5-door looks, but contrary to what most believe, I think the sedan is a sportier trim. That's because I'm a sedan lover, BMW M5 and the Lexus IS are my dream cars.

Well, in the official Mazdaspeed catalog, they have their Mazdaspeed bodykit for the 3 out.

It's the A-Spec kit from Japan, and it's hatchback only.

A sign of things to come?

well, it's a lot easier for mazda to make trim pieces for the cars than whole cars. Contrary to some of you beleiveing it is cheap and easy to make both, that is wrong. That would cost too much for Mazda. Also, you guys do know were talking about MAZDA!! lol Plus, even though people might say they think the 5-door is cool looking, if you were to ask those same people which they would buy. they would most likely go with the 4-door. Like what I think of the scion, cool on paper, would I buy it?, phuck no.

Im glad that everybody is as excited about this as I was when I saw it. I am dissapointed that it was a hatch but who knows what will happen. Maybe they are testing the hatch for structural rigidity versus a sedan. I hope that Mazda chooses the car that has the best performance, not necessarily which is the more popular trend. The last thing I want is a hatch that creaks and rattles. I will keep everyone updated if I see it again, this time I will follow it or if I can get my hands on a camera; take some pictures. By the way, since the R&T magazine SPEED is here in So Cal, I e-mailed the editor Sam Mitani about my sightings, so maybe he will follow up and give us some more info.

i personaly hope its a hatch.... why not right.... i am not a big fan of sedans.... and vindication you are intitled to your own opinion but for now no one knows what its going to be you could debate the pros and cons of both.... either way it isn't our opinions that matter.... its what ms finds they like better.... just my .02

Yea I know I just checked on that. Listen to this real quick:

So I'm walking up to my car last night in the parking lot, comming at it from the side, and from this view, you really notice how the back end blends into the trunk smoothly (I have a sedan). It really looked like the Mazda6 hatchback, which that car is to me, a true hatchback (like the old Saabs). I believe the 3 5-door is more like the 6 wagon (or 5 door, whatever) and that there really isnt a 3 hatchback at all. Not that it matters one way or another what you dub the car, however, when you consider the three variations of the 6, it makes sense....it also makes me wonder if Mazda considered a true hatchback for the 3. The 3 sedan almost looks like the 6 hatch though, all it needs is that wiper on the back window and a big window+deck trunk.
Sorry to ramble on like that.... (blah)
