speedo not working

:
2003.5 MSP
ok, i have a turbo mp3 with a speed protege welded diff and tranny.. means.. no speedo gear.. how can i get my speedo working??

I'm pretty sure converting to ABS is a little more involved than just slapping on sensors?? I wouldn't know from personal experience but that just doesn't seem right..

I know there's a way without dropping tranny, and using abs sensors but not converting to full abs.. I just don't remember how

You have to run the hub sensors and wires up to your harness. You do not need to place all the abs parts in. It just reads off the front wheels. You are not putting in ABS at that point, you are putting in a wheel speed sensor. The easiest way would be to snach the parts off a donor. You will need sensors, wires, and the hub to do this.

I have been doing this s*** way too long. LOL And yes crazy just splap on some sensors and you will have spedo.

Drop transmission, open it, take out gears & shafts needed to get to LSD, take out LSD, modify speedo gear so it will fit, reassemble transmission and put it back in.

I preferred the cleaner approach of having the LSD ground properly to match the open differential to have the speedo gear fit. That's how I did it, and it has worked fine for 25,000kms, and I don't expect any issues in the future.

How much work does that entail? I assume a machine shop would have to do the work?

The LSD obviously had to come out for this, and they charged me 50$ to do it; they had the machine to do it in house is my guess. Never saw pix as I dropped it off in the morning, went to work, and the tranny was all put back together at the end of the day.
All they have to do is machine around the area where the speedo would go. I saw pix online somewhere, and never found them again.

Just wondered for future reference as I plan to install a welded lsd. Thanks

Actually, I'm a dumbass. Just look at what a stock differential looks like, and then compare it to the LSD; pretty self-explanatory after that. Here is a link with all the info you need (see post #22 for the comparison shot): http://www.imazda.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2701

They obviously chose to shave the speedo gear: I wanted it done right.
