Speed/Rev limiter on 1.6L

Brandon's yanking ya'lls chain. The 1.6L can't hit 140mph without being pushed down a hill with Brian's car doing the pushing.

No im serious i topped out doing 140 from St Louis to San Antonio made it in 12.5hrs its a would have been less but i got pulled over about 20mi from home its a 15hr drive. Me and this mustang were going at it we werent racing it was kinda like chace the rabbit kinda thing. I let him haul ass in front of me letting him get pulled over but he exited like in san marcos so i was all alone on the way and got pulled over in schertz. But when i was with the mustang we were WOT topped out at 140 the only vehicle i ever owned that didnt top out was my neon that only made it to 115. i didnt have it long enough to do anything about it.

wow!!!

Wow, didn't know that one. I wonder if there's something different about the 2000 ECU versus my 2001 ECU. I bet your car was shaking like crazy though especially at that speed.

You should let me borrow your ECU while the engine is still out to run some tests. I wish I had the equipment to read the maps off of it though.

i though all proteges could top out i guess not. all i had done at the time was just the Intake and Exhaust. I know my car is slow but i took it to the track and ran a 17.02 and my car was in no shape to run that day, 2k past oil change, hole in exhaust, brakes goin out, shift rod was broken had big box with 2 12's in the trunk. ive seen v6's rin like 16.6 so i guess its not as slow as i thought it was. Dont get it twisted i know i wont be breaking any land speed records but once im done itll be quicker especially with all the mods and weight reduction. Now you got me thinking that was on my last motor the new one going in i wonder if it has a limiter. Were gonna have to check that out fernando.

I want an MP3 ECU :D I just cant figure out if its compatible with the 1.8l motor x..x
I heard you can get some pretty decent gains from it :D

No it handled just fine and that was before i had the blues i was on stock struts and springs. once i get my car back together and find an closed road with a long road ill show ya.

Wow my mp3 has never seen over 115 that was in 4th :) what is the need to go that fast in a car that wasn't built for it? Its fun untill something goes wrong not saying don't do it its your car go for it but its not a fun place to be in when things go wrong.

And the mp3 isn't a big power gain maybe 5 whp at most it just smoothes out the power band

Well for me it's trying to push the car to it's limits mind you in an environment where I can't harm others if something goes wrong. It's the fact that it wasn't designed for it but given the proper modifications you can push it to it's limits. Take Brian's car for a example. When you get right down to it, it's just a station wagon yet all the blood, sweat and tears he's put into has made it into the beast it is. Is it a wise investment? An financial analyst would say no but it's a hobby we like. Like you said to each their own but that's why I like to work on the car. I actually wouldn't mind just building a good looking cruiser like a Mazda5 or a VW Squareback.

My 1.6 protege has seen 110. That's it. It definately lost power at 110 don't know if it was a limiter or just didn't have any power to go faster. That was 110 on the speedo. With my bigger tires the actuaal speed was probably 120-125.

To me it felt like a fuel cut off. (The ECU telling the fuel pump - no more.) Speed's ECU doesn't seem to have that same limiter. I'm curious to try his ECU out in my car to see if it kills the fuel cut off.

your more than welcome to try it out my friend i should also get my trailing arms tomorrow they are here in town

Sweet! I'm curious to know if yours come with poly bushings. Justin's GT Spec came with rubber in the front and poly in the back. Kinda wierd for GT Spec...

it is exactly 10bhp

my 2.0 has seen 123, and i backed off. a wheel was shaking so i stopped, and later found out i tossed a lug nut at 123

so 7 at the wheel or somewere in there? but since the mp3 is rated at 140 bhp and the regular protege with 2.0 is rated at 130 that would mean that all of the power came from the ecu and nothing came from the exhaust or vtcs delete...
either way unless its life or death is more than 120 neccesarry? i havnt taken my car to the track yet but i am doubtful it would even pull 100 out of 1/4 mile

Necessary... but it usually nothing we do to our cars is necessary. Most cars can't even handle the stock horsepower on the crappy suspension setup that comes with it. If all you ever do to a car is install a good suspension you'll be able to more thoroughly "enjoy" the car during spirited driving session through the twisties. Personally I'd like a little more just so that my car can get out it's own way. Where we live at right now having a bit more oomph is beneficial when it comes to merging with the traffic running by the driveway.
