Speed Kills

I know that in this case weather didn't play a part of it. But I can assure you that the 340hp Mustang is not as easy to drive in snow as your wife's 115hp civic.

And who has a wife at 16?

Who said anything about snow? If snow was involved then it might have been a true accident... not someone being an idiot behind the wheel.

Look... it seems like alot of ppl like to think it takes alot of skill to drive a car. It doesn't... what it does take is awareness and consideration for fellow drivers. Something 80% of drivers don't have. My mom taught me how to SAFELY drive a car in about an hour at age 13. On a public road you don't need to know about cornering characteristics, or how fast it takes for your turbo to spool, or anything of that nature 99% of the time. There is no skill involved... you stay in your lines, indicate your intentions (which most drivers dont do), and that's about it. Please stop talking about driving like it's some sort of great feat of coordination and practice.

The reason accidents happen are because ppl aren't aware or considerate and lack common sense. They guy doing 80 in the fast lane is well within his rights to risk getting a ticket. Anyone in front of him should move the F over. Now if he tailgates he is being just as inconsiderate as the person who won't move for him. Ppl talk on cell phones (yes I've done it, but only for brief 1-3 min calls), they eat, dress, etc while driving. Not indicating, cutting ppl off, following too closely, or just plain driving too fast. These are just some of the causes for accidents (and many are big pet peeves of mine). Common sense, not training could cure most of these problems. JMO, but if people in this country stopped thinking so much about themselves and started worrying about others it would both a safer place to drive AND live.

My kids will get the oldest still-running decent-looking car with a manual transmission and they will learn to like it. Unless they can pay for their own fast car when they're 18 if they can pay for their own full-time college and make decent grades. Ha right. I'm thinking if I had 16-22 year old kids today for example: late 90 Accord 4-cylinder 5-speed..... early 90's 525i 5-speed.... 10-year old base model non-turbo Volvo wagon with a 5-speed.... maybe if they're lucky a base Mazda6 model a 5-speed. Parents just don't understand.

I had an all stock 140 horsepower SE-R from age 17-26 and I was a semi-experienced go-cart driver as a kid and it was still enough power to get me doing dumb dumb dumbass s***. SR20DE 4 teh W1n LOL!

people who cant drive and who are irresponsible is what kills, not speed. Speed is ultimately the cause of this, but the problem is that people buy a car like this and rely on the car to drive them instead of them driving the car. But who knows he could have been a good driver and swerved to miss a deer. either way its horrible anytime something like this happens
Speed kills as well. It's easy to see that less speed = smaller chance of death.

damn man

reading through this brings back a memory of a similar accident in my town...four people in the car and only the driver survived...they were doing over 100 when then lost control and wrapped their BMW into a light post (no kid should be given a car that powerful...)

I agree that its the driver's stupidity that causes the accident, but (Im not blaming the deaths on the parents) a parent needs to understand that as a teenager they are going to bomb around in their car...no matter how nice it is or how bad it is, and no matter how responsible the kids are, they will...they shouldnt be given a car that makes them feel like they have more power than they should have at that age because (and I know from first hand experience) kids do stupid s***, I know I did, and Im really glad I didnt wind up like them...

just this weekend a 17 year old was going through downtown after midnight in his (yes his...his parents gave it to him) Mustang GT V8 (the GT!)...cops recorded the speed as 106 mph before he lost control, corrected it, but didnt know how to handle a RWD spinout at HIGH speed and ran it into a tree

looks like a buzz saw just cut off half of the car

thankfully no one died, but the driver already had 2 speeding points on his record before hand....

only because more lower speed accidents are around other vehicles...most high speed accidents are solo accidents...but even then, the whole town was put into shock after the three in the BMW died...kindof made everything a wakeup call for the kids in town

Oh yea...and I am sure you all have heard about "The Hulks (Hogans)" kid...wrecked his Supra (going too fast) the other night, and his passenger is in critical condition with head injuries. 17 years old...and NOW come to find out he has had 5 speeding tickets in the last year alone.

Hulk is a moron for letting his kid still drive that car. I have not met a 17 year old kid that has the responsibility or maturity level to handle such a car.

Shame on Hulk for not taking that car away from him for a while when he got the tickets.

that doesnt prove your point dude....that doesnt point out high speed vs low speed that points out high speed vs stupid driving

lol, hulk hogans kid drifts his supra in competitions here in cali...but a local from my town spanked his ass on the drift track...

We saw hogans kid a couple weeks ago drifting his new D1 350Z competition car that his daddy bought him....He cant drift for s***... There was a kid out there in a $4k Turbo'ed FC RX7 that could run circles around him...

OK so If the number of Total Deaths in 05' is 4,329
The number of Speeding related Deaths in 05' 1,471
That means more people died in any other non-speed related accident.

Regardless of if they were driving like retards was not my point my point was
More people die in lower speed accidents than high speed accidents.

And this has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of people who actually drive the speed limit in the small state of California? Instant classic.

That doesn't cut it. Good thing you are not a lawyer.

Of course it has nothing to do with it, I mean with California being so underpopulated and small, everyone goes the speed limit, of course.
