Speed 3 - Si

Oh my gosh~! I can't believe you just called it a station wagon! >_<
(when I hear station wagon, I picture something I can stuff 20 dead bodies into)

lol~ j/k I prefer the term "hot hatch", but like others said owning those cars are totally up to one's preference. Performance + versatility = unbeatable deal. To me the hatch looks way more beautiful than the sedan (for the Mazda 3).

I don't mind it's being called a station wagon if it is the insurance company that is calling.
Make it way cheaper for the bill.

You speed three guys seem cool. but keep in mind i'm not comparing prices here. I'm comparing performance.

But your right. The GTI is your competition and you guys walk all over it.

I think the Si coupes look good, and the Si Sedan looks like swampass!!!!

I guess the Speed3 hold its weight when it comes to speed for the value, and everyone has to admit the Si holds its weight when it comes to N/A 4 cylinder performance. I guess thats why it is often brought into debates with turbo and 6 cylinder cars. I cant think of any other affordable car that beats hondas high revving 4-cylinders.

Good point...And come to think about it...it does look like a swampass...i blame Swampass for this one for real

That'd be nice except that the insurance companies already know it's called MazdaSPEED3 for a reason. Good point though. *^_^*

Also i've heard the STi might come in a 2door coupe. Which would be badass. Take the 04-05 look and take 2 doors off it and maybe make it a touch shorter. 22B ftw.

I've been browsing this forum for a while and i figured it was about time to register. I love the Speed3 for its price and the power it puts out. However i keep hearing people say that mazda forced themsef into the big power class. To much torque and HP in a car thats only FWD and is not balanced well enough.

I also keep hearing MS3 owners compare themselves to Si's, RSX's etc... But why? You guys need to go play in your own league, turbo Evo's/WRX STi's?/M3's. Those are cars that have 4 cylinder turbo motors (except the M3). Lets see how bad your ass gets Waxxxxxxxxxxxxxxed, LOL, j/k.

Also, why did mazda design their speed3 as a station wagon?????? YUCK!! They should have used the sedan mazda 3 as a template for their speed version. it would have sold like ASS during wartime.

Anyway i'm just making small talk and attempting to feel out the Speed3 scene.

Go drive an MS3 and then complain to me about what it looks like. I doubt you will care as much if it's a "wagon" or not. And from what I've heard, they are selling really well just the way they are. I have always liked the hatch style so maybe I'm biased. You really need to go for a test drive to fully appreciate this machine.

Honda lover here. 06 Si coupe owner here. I'm selling my Si for an MS3. The Si sedan is hideous. The dash is what a dashboard should be. Functional. Everything is in a good place. The car is a blast to drive, and has been fairly easy to work on (springs, control arms, intake, header, exhaust, reflash, can't recall what else).

I want the MS3 for the versatility mostly, plus I want to do some work to a turbo car. Plus the MS3 is sexy.

No. The STI is in another class, the WRX is very comparable to the MS3. Regarding the Evo, I agree.

Heh, apologies for my very stream of consciousness post.

yeah true, but the wrx i mean as separate class as in, its awd to ms3 fwd.
so i compare it to what it was desighned ot be agianst by the mazda book.
i think the magazines were the ones comparing it to those awd models. But thats also why i took this car its fun, fast, and 10 grand cheaper almsot than the awd cars. And there will be an aftermarket for this car. hopefully stonger than the msp.

but for me, i love the car, was holding off on wanting it. (money) but the wife said yes so i go the car. dont care if its called a wagon, or a hatch, either way they call it a 5 door.

nobody mentioned yet that mazda did build a car to compete in the EVO, STI class...its called a Mazdaspeed 6! ... I have to agree with anyone who doesnt like the look of the hatchs, but hey different strokes for different folks. There are hatch lovers and sedan lovers. I just wish japan would send us a sedan Ms3...do they have them over there already? I know they were planning on it, but we wouldnt get them in the states.

no.

also, the speed3 is a hatch because this car is sold world wide, not just in N.A. If you guys notice, hatches(3 or 5 door) is what is sold most around the world especially here in Europe.

MS6 is more of an Athletic sporty AWD luxo crusier than an Sti & Evo competitor. Handling is no where near as sharp as those 2 nor is it as fast, but its a FAR nicer car to sit in and take on a long cruise. Likes a sporty grand touring car

well i guess im wrong then, but to me a ms6 is closer to evo/sti than a ****** speed3...

AWD,Turbo, and almost as much power compared to the evo/sti...i get that there are differences, but when it comes to power and price this is way closer than a 3 to that category.

yeah thats why i like it here in america...we have our econoboxes, but at least it doesnt look like we a highway full of aveos when we are out...

Wow, I must be the only person who thinks that the Si coupe looks like something I would shove under my door to keep it from slamming shut.

From all of the pics I originally had seen, it looked like the STI would be a hatch.

Ur right the MS6 is no where near an STi or Evo and shouldn't be compared in it's class. But u can compare the 03/04 Evo's #'s 2 the MS6 just for comparison in the 0-60 and 1/4mile. And well most people don't realize it but 04 STi's are a tad bit slower than the 05+ STi's!! The 03-04 Evo's are slower than the 05+Evo's Look at the #'s for yourself most evo's are averaging at the track around 13.7-14.1sec in the 1/4mile which is basically what a properly driven MS6 would run. On the STi i don't know average #'s, but a buddy of mine ran a 13.7 in his Bone stock 99 3000GT VR-4 and he ran a 04 White STi with DP. The STi would only get him by half car to 1car if they both launch the car properly!!

M3 in the same class... LOL they both can carry a bottle of grey poupon and they both share a letter and number in abreviation but thats as close to same class as they get... dont let the 4.7 vs 5.9 sec (measly 1.2 sec) difference fool you.. the M3 is in a whole diff league and it's spelled handling... for all of BMW's flaws they know how to make cars handle... not to mention you can buy 2 MS3's and a regular ole 3 for the price of 1 M3.... I'll whack any fellow MS3 owner with the reality check paddle if I see them claiming the MS3 is in same class as M3....

You really have to look at total package in order to place the cars in the class... for economy cars price is a big factor...

(iagree) Even if some gearhead modded the Speed3 to have 350whp, it still wouldn't be in the same class with the M3.

You'd be suprised how little difference in premium it is between a regular 3 and a speed3.

I look like me!

I like the Si. I think the coupe is very nice. I don't like the dash though, but that's small taters to me.

As for the MS3 having too much power as a FWD car, that maybe valid. Oddly enough, if Honda offered the Si with a free power upgrade kit to boost HP and torque to the levels of the MS3, would you take it? I would.
I think it's two different approaches to a similar end. The Civic Si is certainly a rev'r. Personally, I like being able to rev a car.
My frosted side likes being able to rev the hell out of a car extracting every last bit of engine performance. My wheat side likes being lazy and being able to stomp it in high gear, low in the revs and walk away from other cars.

To me, it's the 600cc sportbike vs. 1000cc sportbike debate. Each has its merits. Both are stinky fast.
