sp9000 suck in the cold

Still got the sp9000's on the car mid december.. Im not trying to put the steelies on yet. I have just kept it in the garage till the snow melts. It is nice to have performance tires when it is a nice day. Today i was out zipping around rippin a turn in 3rd gear, when my rear end slid out on me pretty bad I corrected pretty fast, but got scared by the surprise. I wasnt going as fast as i usually can, the tires just gave out a little sooner. They dont grip well in cold conditions.

they suck period, this car has a slight tendencey to understeer, that how i wrecked mine the first week i had it, i have cooper avenger zhp's now and they kick all ass.

i drove on ice the other day and did just fine, i cant help it if you cant drive sideways

we dont get much snowfall in oklahoma but we get sheets of ice covering the roads.

Well i've been pushing my sp9000s pretty hard and i like them. As for understeering, can't say they have so far. I've used them for autocrossing and well I can say they did preform very well. But as for them sucking in the cold, I agree they do, but then again, those tires are not all season. They are summer tires. So as for replacements, i'm just goin to pick up some Yokohama AVS100s. I've been hearing many postive reactions to them. If u want to spend some money, i'd say go with some Toyo Proxies or Kumho. Don't go nittos, all negitive feed back on those ones. As for tires, you should talk to "mazdamp3_18" He gave me really good feed back on what tires to go with.

I don't suggest getting the Paradas, they are horible in the wet and cold.

i usually dont run the sp9000 after nov.. but i left them on this winter as long as i could, i need to remove them now though... weather is nasty. I was just surprised the loss of grip when cold. I will probally try a different tire next spring, this is my 2nd set of sp9000's, im happy but i would like something a lil stickier.

The 'Harts/Dunlops go in the shed until spring and the car handles (almost) as good. Has helped the Dunlops, too as the two originals are just now needing to be replaced...probably with Kumho 712s.

The 'Harts/Dunlops go in the shed until spring and the car handles (almost) as good. Has helped the Dunlops, too as the two originals are just now needing to be replaced...probably with Kumho 712s.

I have a set of snow tires... we just had a real dry warm dec. so i kept them on as long as possible. I put my snowtires on right before christmas. I was mainly comenting on how bad they grip in the cold, they got stiff and like to slide when pushed.

Hey, guys! Yeah...been busy and the other day I thought to myself that I hadn't been on mazdamp3.com for a long while (although I did my visit to the Drive IT! event in a board t-shirt --in NYC).

The MP3 is doing good (44,000 miles)...but I have to chase the dealer on a couple of things before the warranty runs out. Then this spring, new tires and I'll add a couple of things and go autox with it.

On the topic...the SP9000's performance goes away quickly in the cold. The $500 worth of rims/tires was well worth it.

P.S. bought a Tribute in the dark grey with the grey leather...it's got 9000 miles on it after a year!

Sweet!

I drove on the SP's in the snow and did just fine with them. I couldn't justify $500+ dollars for the five to six days we actualy have snow on the roads here.

However, I replaced the Dunlops with the Kumho Ecsta 712s and have done even better in the five to six days of snow on the road and have better traction in the wet.

Yes, they work great when warm, but I have not been disappointed with the cold weather traction of the Kumhos

I roll with the Yokohama AVS 100's, and they have done better than the Falken Ziex 512's I used to rock for as far was wet traction. They handle great too.
