The boyfriend and I are wanting to buy a lovely wee 08 MX5 RC Hardtop but have a few concerns.
This is our first time buying an MX5 so would appreciate any advice in relation to a few things.
We test drove it today but there was a sound coming from near the inlet manifold - Dad thinks it might be the secondary air pump but he's no expert on MX5's .
He said it didn't sound like a hydraulic tappet though. Anyone know what this might be?
It needs four new tyres on it and I've have been offered 205 55 16 as opposed to 205 50 16. Anyone out there done this with their own? Any problems with the ride/handling or am I good to go with this?
The A/C didn't seem to want to blow cold today either on the test. Is this likely to be a simple regas?
Also noticed quite a bit of surface rust on some of the fasteners. Is this common, the car did live beside the sea for a while so was wondering if that might account for it?
Any other advice to look out for would be much appreciated, as we can't really afford any unexpected bills immediately as we are nearing the top end of our budget with this!
Oh and one last thing, can anyone recommend a good Mazda MX5 specialist in or around the Belfast area? Wouldn't mind getting it the once over from a specialist before we buy it but not sure who to go to ?!
