I went to my dealership today on an off chance that the parts guys had gotten back from their little Mazdaspeed Protege parts Ho-down (unknown if this was the official name, i just made it up).

Well, they had. They had a cool little book that talked about the differences between the Mazdaspeed Protege and your run of the mill 2002 Protege. It also had a parts list, with prices.

Things to note, the manifold is an exchange item only...Must have VIN and the manifold to get a new one. This verifies the "no turbo for non-Mazdaspeed" theory.

Other items to note, much like the MP3, all suspension pieces will be for sale. And the part numbers are definitely different than the MP3 suspension pieces.

Wheels are for sale as well and the body pieces.

I think I saw that the exhaust was on there too. Now whether the exhaust is just the muffler as it is on the MP3, or the cat back (which is different than the MP3 or regular Protege) I don't know. It said that the Mazdaspeed Protege has a different silencer, and the pipe was different from there on back, for the turbo.

There was no LSD, there was nothing about the sub, amp or head unit. The speakers will be for sale as well.

There is also an oil cooler on the car, however I didn't see that in the parts list for sale.

Basically, just about everything they sold to make the MP3 an MP3, they are selling from the Mazdaspeed Protege.

Parts availability is TBA...

I'am very happy with what Mazda is doing with the Protege. There is finally some enthusiasm about it. But do not understand the reasoning behind the manifold scheme. They know they are going to sell every Mazdaspeed Protege, so why only let 2,000 people enjoy the benefits. If Mazda wants to compete against the Civics of the world, they need to make aftermarket (Mazdaspeed products) available to everyone; including us unfortunate Mazda owners who either bought a P5, MP3 or ES just a year or a couple of months ago.

If you want a turbo and you are not a Mazdaspeed Protege, get the FM Protege Turbo Kit. It'll probably cost about the same, if not less and is better than what the Mazdaspeed set-up is.

Or, you can get Terry's. Its all up to you...

Just MHO...

Why buy a Mazda / Calloway turbo kit that limits you to less than 7 psi? Buy the Flyin Miata kit or Spoolin's kit for flexibility.
