Ok....i am looking into cars to buy, of course my apple hasnt fallen far from the tree as I have been looking into the MS6 pretty hardcore but now I am seeing what the MS3 has to offer. I have seen a few videos of the MS6 and MS3 racing, on a drag strip of course, and if both stock the MS6 has won, due to the awd i would presume. I have been told that if the MS3 was to have a rolling start that it would beat the MS6, why would that be?

Basically due to the fact that mazdaspeed 6 is all wheel drive there is more drivetrain loss. This and plus the weight difference the speed 3 has an advantage from a roll. A pretty big advantage actually.

MS6 = 3589 lbs
MS3 = 3153 lbs

It's the same engine, the only difference is that the MS6 has about 11 more hp and AWD (assuming it's 274 to 263). With the AWD it also weighs a lot more, from the line the MS6 will have an advantage but from a roll the AWD won't do as much and because the MS3 is lighter it will take off quicker.

ive owned both. first the ms3 and now a ms6. from a roll the ms3 would take a ms6 everytime. But speed is only one thing you should be considering when buying a car. do you want a hatch or sedan. i personally love the style of the ms6 and would never go back to a ms3. just my .02

These are all very valid points and make sense....personally I love the 6 look, I have the 6i and already love the car, so a speed6 would be a first choice for me. I'm looking for speed along with looks and reliability. I guess with some mods I could lighten a 6 up to make it a more fair fight too?

If you already like the look of the 6 then you should definetly upgrade and go for the speed 6... The whole way the car is designed, with the hood, bumpers and rims just makes it stand out and THAT much better then the regular 6.

yey, a few bolt-ons... a tad bit of weight reduction.
not too mention being able to electronically cut-off the AWD to FWD may help if you interested in trying to win from a roll.

for me, it was all about having a balance of performance for twisites/track... but enough luxery and shexy looks for a daily driver. i luv sedans that have good flowing designs, MS6 won out when i was deciding between 3 other cars.

GL!! hope you find a great MS6 deal. a couple are going on sale on 247 soon i believe.
Also, a couple just went on sale at my local club in california.

in the speed6 you can switch it from awd to fwd? how can you do that? Also is there anything else that can be done to reduce the loss of power but maintain the awd?
