Somebody else driving my car

I'm going to be getting the MSP tomorrow. The dealer doesn't have the car on the lot as of now, they told me it's at another dealership. Asked if I can pick it up there myself and they told me no. So he says they're gonna drive it to my local dealership. I asked them to transport the car, because I don't like the idea of somebody else driving a car I'm buying and haven't even driven it yet. He told me there's a charge for it, which I don't want to pay. I just know either a rock is gonna chip something and they're gonna boot the car (drive fast) the whole way without it properly being broken in. What do you guys think about this?

Well, it's a common practice for dealerships to trade cars back and forth.
They drive them from one dealer to the other.
There is the chance that they car will get driven faster than normal, but you should be able to trust your dealer I would think.
You might want to ask how many K's will be on the car after it gets delivered, that might be a good excuse for them to ship it if it's going to be more, than say 100.

My service manager brought my car from a lot that the truck delivers the cars to and it was raining. the funny part is that he said he spun clear through second (not knowing it would be my car)

Is this the same dealer that "SOLD YOUR CAR",If so I would tell them to transport it for free or your not buying it!The Other thing you could do is just ask
"who will be driving it?"
Chances are it will be an older more responsible person doing the driving so you prob don't have anything to worry about!If not ,just ask that a responsible person be allowed to "transport this car"I don't see why the dealer would have a prob with any of these options.Remeber,you are the customer who is buying a 21,000 dollar car ,so I think that they will do what they can to make you happy.If they didn't ,I would walk out and find the next closest dealership that is selling the MSP and pay them a freindly visit! Just my .02 cents

sucks, but it's the nature of dealing with getting cars. Although, my MP3 was transferred by truck at no cost to me 800 kms( I love my dealer )


When I was 17-19, I used to ship cars back and forth as well. I would actually take care of them though as much as I could....but yes, every now and then I would drive a little faster then normal.

When I bought my Pro5 the dealer delivered it to me at work which was about 45 minutes to an hour away. Its kind of important to break the motor in, but as long as the guy driving doesn't leave it pegged at redline the whole trip it will be ok. As far as paint chips go...that a tough call. Its going to happen sooner or later, but it would suck to have a big chip before you even get to wash it once. Depending on the situation, maybe you can do a walk around the car with the salesman before you sign the papers and get a little money off if there is something major wrong with the paint.

I guess I lucked out with my dealer - they had mine flatbedded in from West Palm Beach after the one I was looking at earlier in the week sold. No charge, no hassle, and hopefully no hard driving in between, though I doubt it considering it had 11 miles on it when I bought it!
