Some really good news

Ok, So...

I got the mod bug bad...so...
I called my service guy to ask about how the dealer would react if i were to install mounts and a short shifter, to which he said it will not void any warranty (unless something such as shift linkage were affected and damaged)...

On another note, he mentioned that the MAZDASPEED CAI is back and they have 2 available! (breakn)

Initially, I was turned off to any intake system until the warranty was up...but this changes it.

Question 1: Has anyone else heard about the MS intake becoming available again?

Question 2: Has anyone had any issues with hyrolock with the MS CAI? He said that they havent seen it yet. (note: it apparently does not come with a shield)

Thoughts...

question 2: With A CAI you have a high risk of getting hydrolock but then again it takes a really big pot hole full of water to get up there.

you can always a cobb sri

1. its cheaper ( 185$) compared to like 350$+ or watever
2. you have a very small chance of getting hydrolock ( if you do then most likely ur going to flood ur engine if water can get up that high meaning your collecting insurance money)
3. Theres really no difference in CAI to the SRI. very small and not really a difference in power. i think the CAI is like 3 degress colder or something ( correct me if im wrong)

4. Plus if you get the SRI and your worried about your warranty then you can always swap it out before dealer visits it takes like 30 mins
5. Also SRI is easier to install.

Is it really that much cheaper?

If that's the case, then it really would be a better option...is it simple to put the stock gear back on if need be for work?

super easy to put back in.. like amilli said, 30min
get the cobb for sure (:
or the corksport if u want a turbo inlet too. 239$ gets u sri and turbo inlet together.. longer to instal and put stock back in tho

well if your looking on the Mazda website.. according to the online store... the CAI is MSRP: * $375.00.. in my opinion thats a lot for a CAI

yup you can do either or

amilliems6, Yea I think thats the route to go for sure. The MS CAI is WAY overpriced, and the risk of hydrolock isnt appealing.

ms3action, So if you DONT get the inlet pipe as well when you get the sri is it easy to install later? Or do you need to remove the sri again to slap the inlet on?

Thanks everyone!

well. the inlet is the other part of the intake. so in order to put on the inlet u need to remove the intake.

yea the corksport is all one piece, sri and turbo inlet combo. but if u buy just the cobb sri u can buy a new turbo inlet later down the road. but u do have to remove sri to install inlet. inlet install isnt too bad with the right tools and following the instructions

The cobb SRI is a breeze to take off. One bolt for the bracket and 2 hose clamps. slap the stock airbox back in... provided you didnt gut the bottom out... and BOOOM.... your stocker.

There's a stigma with the MS CAI and hydrolock, and in actuality, it takes a massive amount of water to cause the engine to fail. Hitting a puddle isn't going to cause hydrolock...trying to go through 8-12" of water will. Think of it as sucking through a straw. Water would have to make it all the way through the intake and turbo before it would stall the motor out.

With that said, $375 is a lot for that intake, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper if that's what you really want.
