MOLSHEIM, France The 1,001-hp Bugatti Veyron, which holds the distinction of world's fastest production car, has sold out its entire 2006 run of 50 vehicles at some $1.2 million each.

Bugatti president Tomas Bscher told the German publication Automobilwoche recently that the company has firm orders in hand for 70 Veyrons. In response, he says Bugatti is planning to increase production to 70 per year to cut the current 14-to-15-month waiting period for this last word in automotive luxury.

The Veyron has an 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 engine and can exceed 250 mph. In February it was named MSN's Car of the Year in the United Kingdom after gathering 47 percent of the popular vote and has reaped awards, superlatives and just plain lust from around the world.

i have a feeling the more they sell, the lower that figure gets, as most of that cost was R&D.

once i win powerball, i'm all over it :) screw investing it, i need one of those. plus awd means i can drive it in winter too, it's the perfect daily driver

I thought this was only gonna be sold for like a year or two due to the cost to manufacture vs. sale being to high. ohh well.

sorry guys... I'm sitting on the two I have. It's an investment. Should triple in price in 08

The car is SO ridiculous that you can't help but LOVE IT! Apparently a lot of uber rich people feel the same way...(2thumbs)

It kinda sucks because it makes my F50 seem slow now. With gas prices the way they are, it's a pricey daily driver, but now I don't want anything else.

I wish bugatti would make an entry level car.

Entry level Bugatti? Now that made me laugh. Bugattis have always been for the uber rich. I really do not see them marketting a entry level car. Do see them selling a car under the Veyron.

This is my 4,000th post!!

What made Bugatti such a force in the racecar world was that they sold their racing cars for cheap so more amature racers could buy them. Granted this was all back in the 1920's and 30's, but all the old Bugatti Grand Prix racers from back then were dirt cheap compared to the other race cars being built. They should do that again.
