Soft brake pedal and whistle

Yesterday I noticed that the brake pedal on my Mazda3 (2008 with 7,000 km) felt really soft - the pedal seemed to go down really far. I pulled into a parking lot and stopped. I noticed that as I released the pedal (with the car stopped) there was a whistling sound.

Since I switch between 2 vehicles, I thought I was imagining this, but as soon as I mentioned it to my wife, she said that she had noticed the same thing that day.

It was a hot day, but the car hadn't been driven particularly hard, and it had been parked for 2 hours before I used it.

Any ideas? The brakes seemed less mushy today, and no whistling. I took it to the dealer, but they didn't see anything unusual.

Thanks...

i would think a leak in your fluid but if the dealer didn't find anything maybe an air bubble??? did some one recently work on your brakes?

The brake fluid is full, and I didn't see any leaks. I took it in for its first service a couple weeks ago, otherwise no monkeying around. It doesn't sound like the "break something so I'll have to come back" since they haven't said anything needs to be fixed. :(
