Hey everyone!

I've got a 2002 Protege5 with an short air intake and no other upgrades. I've also got $1000 to burn into the car. My questions for the experts that I love reading from are these:

1. What would you do with $1000 if you just wanted more power (e.g. HP is *god*)?

2. What would you do with $1000 if you wanted all-around performance increase (e.g. HP is good and all, but the car's gotta handle it, too)?

Finally, if $1000 isn't enough, let's up it to $2000 and see what I can do.

I really appreciate any advice you guys (and galz) can give me!

Thanks,

Irk

Yup, what they said. If you've got $1000 and can up it to $2000, keep saving and boost it.
As for me, I'll be doing the little things...

well other than the obvious "boost it" comment....if you want to make it go...AND handle....AND you are not going to boost it...

the next few things to do would be first get a cat back exhaust system. then get yourself some suspension mods like a good set of springs and struts. of course you will follow that with a really nice new set of wheels and new wider tires.

i'd buy some cheap 17's w/tires from wheelmax or something
(they have some awsome deals there.)
then i would get some eibach prokits & mazdaspeed shocks

right about 1K

if you want to bump it to 2K I would then add a Wagner shorty header and a either a nice catback or axle back exhaust.

Eibach ProKit, Tokico HPs, Racing Beat Cat-back, Kartboy Short Shifter.

That should be under a grand.

forget what everyone else thinks, how do you want to drive the car? do you want to be really fast? if so then you HAVE to go turbo (or Nitrous, but be warned not to do this without management)

do you want to tear up the twisties? if so, then go all handling mods

do you want to have a well balanced car? then look for some cheap engine management, and a few na mods, intake, exhaust, then get some handling mods...

it really boils down to what you want out of it.
