So what problems have you experienced so far?

I came from a 95 MX-6 (V-6) with excellent tires but 145000 miles. I find the Protege5 pretty quiet at 60-70 mph. I haven't spent much time faster than 75 in it yet but the noise is not annoying at all.

Sure it's not as quiet as my wife's Millenia but it shouldn't be expected to be.

1) cheap ass paint
2) jerky transmission
3) scratched sunroof(which dealer won't fix even though i recieved the car in that condition)

JimmyRay05, damn, not fixing your moonroof? where did u get it from, im sure im not going to that place for regular check ups.

LiquidTurbo2000, its good that you are shopping around, i have done some thinking between the 2 about 4 months ago, have to say that i really enjoy my p5. Civic sure is nice, but p5 has better value overall. BTW, next time you come down to Richmond, p5s are everywhere, its becoming a zoom-city.;)

The only trouble I had with a rock that cracked my window. Beyond that, I wish people would stop looking at my car:)

ZMTHIS

I had to replace my driver's door ajar sensor - twice. The first time the relay went bad and kept making the car think the doors were open and set off the alarm. They eventually had to replace the entire alarm system and steering column. My A/C switch failed but now works like a charm so I have yet to b**** about it.

Love the car otherwise - and I must add that the SR Motorsports sway bar is excellent, though next time instructions would be nice fellas.

actaully just had my rear rotors machined on monday because they had warped other than that my only bith is the thin ass paint

The only complaint I have is a small but annoying rattle in the driver door. But as long as I keep all my windows close it'll be quiet.

Firefly, someone I either on this board or Protegeclub forum posted a fix for the door rattle with the window/moonroof open. I haven't tried it yet, but probably will this week.

...(snip)...while everyone on the vw site talks about how much they love their cars, there are constant complaints about window regulators breaking and the windows falling into the doors, doors leaking green goop when it gets hot outside, dealer problems, lemon law problems, squeeks, rattles, and other stuff that breaks on their new cars (within the first 1000 miles of ownership)!...(snip)...

Yep, that's a VW. They just don't have the quality control that the Nipponese do. Vee-Dub engines don't last as long, either.

...(snip)...Nissans seem to be a lot better on the reliability, but still people complain there about blown engines and paint problems!?!?...(snip)...
I don't know about blown engines (sounds like a loose nut behind the wheel to me), but paint issues are a problem with Mazda's, too.

Yes, this is true! How can I know what to expect of my car when it hits 25K miles if I can't cross-reference with a fellow board member who (wonder of wonders) has put 25K on his ride? I agree, mouseofMars.

the only real problem that I have is that Giant magnet that seems to be mounted behind the driver's side front bumper. You know the one? It keeps other cars almost constantly connected to mine in the same damn spot! It seems to only be active when I am in the car as it has never been "magnetic" when I am out of it( that I can tell). most of the time it is not too bad,Minor, slow attractions that do little damage(mostly when parked in a lot, usually at work). The real problem was that one day it activated while I was driving and made a little girl use her Neon to attempt to deactivate it. I asked the bodyshop NOT to replace it(the magnet) when they put the new front end on, but 2 weeks later sure enough,it activated again in the parking lot at work.

Does anyone know how to deactivate it permanently???( and no, I am not going to trade the car in for a Honduh.Even though I know they have trouble being "attractive");) ;)

Like that dude's car in the movie "Snatch"? :D

My P5 was delivered with a loose wire in the horn circuit. Of course it was covered by the warrenty, but it was still slightly bothersome to have to drive back to the dealer to get it fixed.

Of course while I was there, I ranted and raved about the car to a couple that was shopping and convinced them to buy one too :)

1 minor prob in 4 months...

My wife's P5 has been defect-free for 4 months... except for a minor complaint about a mouldy smell for a minute when first turning on the air conditioning. Haven't decided whether to have it checked out at the dealer....
