so what boost level should I set my MSP at?

:
MSP & MS3
So I installed my boost gauge (for my MSP) the other day but have yet to install the MBC... I'm nervous about what setting to put it at. Blowing my engine would NOT be cool.... so how bout it guys? any suggestions as to what settting would be considered safe? I obviously want a bit more power, but I also want to air on the side of caution... this thing's currently set at 7psi right? I know they can handle it but it's funny how WRX and SRTs have it set at like 15... imagine if our cars could handle 15!!! no clue what our HP rating would be but damn!!! Gotta believe at least 220!! damn these stupid unforged internals and weak transmission!!!

haha go for 15 and let us knoe...

j/k but discreetspeed is running 15 psi but i'm not sure if he's on stock internals...but he's pretty effin' fast

i hope u got the ngk bkr7e spark plugs before u turn up the boost...i'm probably going to set it to 9 psi when i install everything (fpr, mbc, fcd) and the spark plugs

id say leave it stock for the winter, JMHO

yeah...colder air makes our cars run extremely fast...kinda scary how hard it pulls. there's a pretty big difference between running in the cold and the warm air. like dexter said, keep it stock until spring rolls around

Yeah, and then I'd set it to 9psi, unless you get an FCD, then 10-12psi, but any higher than that, and I'd go with internals. And aren't our trannies good to 300??? Maybe I was misinformed, correct me if this is the case

ok... that's good advice! (till things thaw out that is..) so I need to replace my spark plugs huh? freakin sales dude kept goin on and on about how these cars have the best of the best... sounds like he may have been BS'in me... as crazy as that sounds!!

Jflo: why not set the boost at 9 before you get a FMIC and all that other stuff I most likely won't be getting? bad for the car?

Anyone know what the deal is with this flash? had mine done... haven't noticed a single difference so whatever.... but I heard some people say you can't turn up the boost once you have the flash done. (at the time I was convinced the flash would give me like 20 more hp so I didn't care... figured I wouldn't need to turn up the boost with that type of increase) oh well... guess it doesn't matter till next April or so (excuse me while I lose my lunch AND dinner!!) winter's here... must... think.... positively!!!

If you don't feel any difference from the flash, it might not have been done. The difference was like night and day for me.

I was running post flash at 9.5 psi before the cold weather set in, with no problems. But the car pulls almost as hard at stock boost in cold weather.

If you want to stay safe, keep it at stock boost when it's under 40-45 degrees...and set it at 9psi in warmer weather.

I believe the flash advances the timing, in which it is less safe to run higher boost...But makes more power with lower levels of boost...so if you are indeed flashed, you probably would not want to run a whole lot until you get some ECU upgrades...

15psi with the stock tuning would simply create a grenade...The stock engine may or may not be able to handle that much, but not with the tip in lean out problems with the stock ECU...Also I believe there is an ECU grandma to not allow the boost that high anyway...

whatever you do dont crank it up and run over 10lbs daily for a long period of time..........BEWARE............ once your motor hit 20-30-40k it will everything goes down hill............stay under 10 till you go forged.

yes he's on stock internals. he won't have any problems as long as he keeps doing what he's doing... and that's all i'm gonna say about that.

if you want a conservative boost level, pre or post flash, stay around 9-10psi.

8-10psi in the cold weather is absolutely INSANE!! no traction in first and second at all!! third now rolls for a few seconds too!

no thats completely dry pavement, its the power. because of the lsd, when that s*** starts rollin, like 2nd gear, its hard to predict where the car is going to go.

That's not the LSD...the LSD only shows its face during turns.

What you're describing is torque steer :)

???

Actually the LSD is a large contributor to torque steer and the lack of one wheel spinning...It shows its face just as much in launches...It biases torque back and forth through the front wheels during a hard launch, which pulls the car all over the place...

That's a good way to scare the crap out of a car next to you :) Gun it on a cold day and let it steer you all over your lane and the next one over. I drove a MSP this weekend boosted at 10psi with a dp, intake, and catback and it had crazy wheel spin.
