Guess only the 5 will be Mazda's "mini-van" until the 08 hits the shores?? Does that mean that MPV shown here on other threads will be comin' over? Wonder how much stuff they'll take out... :(

Wow that is pretty sharp!!! I always liked the MPV's, it was too bad that they put the Ford transmission in them though. My buddy had a WindStar and nothing but transmission problems.

Let's hope this makes it in 2008. :)

I love my wifes MPV its the 98 es with sports package and when she first drove the car to work, people thought she was driving a luxury suv and one even thought it was the lexus RX 300. THe design now is getting old on the ones we have but since my wife dosent like the sliding door, shes fine by it. People still mistaken our mpv as an SUV and it can actually go almost head to head with them urban suv when it comes to light off roading. I cant wait to see the 08 mpv. Although we might end up getting the cx9 instead.

4) Mazda Premacy Bright Stylish
Mazda is also exhibiting the Premacy BRIGHT STYLISH CONCEPT that received great reviews at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Salon, and this model indicates a move towards its being offered commercially. Under the "Cool Style Minivan" concept, the Premacy was evolved with a view to a heightened stylishness. The front bumper and grille are outfitted with a chrome kit, while the rear styling is focused on a unified flow emphasized by the rear underskirt. A more resonant exhaust note-attained by fitting an exclusive sports muffler-complements the snazzy design of the Bright Stylish Premacy. More polished than the Premacy, it has been transformed into a model exhibiting hints of more harnessed energy.

Anyone seen this? Not that I'm into bling or anything...just curious. :)

as said in a previous post, the MPV will be discontinued after 2006, to be replaced by the CX-9 in 2008 as the large 7-passenger suv/van/crossover/blah blah blah in the North American Mazda lineup.

..my guess is the the new MPV will make a comeback in 08 (it's out Japan already and looks quite good).

mazda has stated the 'new' MPV will NOT make it to the NA market... too small for the customer here in North America, hence the NA-only CX-9

Man that thing look soo much like a Mazda5 it's not funny. I like it, I think it looks good, it's a shame that it's not coming NA.

We owned an MPV before we bought our 5. For us the MPV was too big for two kids, but not big enough for a third child if we'd had one. I can't tell from the pictures how big the new MPV is, but the old MPV was a funny size--smaller than the Odyssey/Grand Caravan/Sienna et al, noticeably smaller and less useable third seat and cargo area, but not small enough to save fuel or be fun to drive.

The 5 has essentially taken the place of the MPV in the US market, which means I think the MPV needs to be the size of Odyssey et al to be competitive in the US. Of course, why Mazda thinks the CX-9 is the answer is beyond me, particularly in this day and age.

Mpv

As an owner of a 2003 MPV and a 2006 Mazda5 I must admit I was saddened when Mazda chose not to bring the MPV back for 2007.

Their decision is based on the fact that total mini-van sales have been down across NA over the past 3 years. Most manufacturers are making cross-overs that hold 7 passengers (Hyundai and Honda as an example), can function as an SUV and a minivan and cost about as much as a normal mini-van. When you factor in the number of mini-van choices out there, it probably wasn't profitable for Mazda; especially since the MPV was assembled in Japan and shipped over to NA.

I do believe that the cross-over market will just now become as saturated as the mini-van market, so I'm not sure how the CX-9 will fare in such a competitive market.

We have found that the MPV is ideal for our family of 5. I find the alternative Hondas, Toyotas and even the Kia and Hyundai to be way too big. Had Mazda decided to continue to MPV I would have certainly bought this instead of the Mazda5. No regrets though, the fuel economy of the Mazda5 wins my vote any day.

I average 26mpg on the Mazda5 whereas the MPV struggles to deliver 19mpg for the same type of driving.

i would much rather see the new MPV now than the cx-9. People seem to be looking towards vehicles that are more practical and minivans kind of provide that. Problem is that most people are afraid to admit that they want a minivan. Hahaha and thats why we got the 5 instead. :P
SUV's are soooo five years ago and somehow it takes car manufacture's a few years to catch up with demand. I got rid of my SUV because in the 6 years that i owned it i didnt once need to go off road or plow through mud or snow. My SUV sat comfortably on the highway and loved the gas station.
:P

Honda, Nissan, Toyota and even Kia are really pushing their vans, so why would Mazda think there is no van market? If they release the japanese version, not some completely different US bloated V8 version, etc, it will sell to a lot more than just families. It's hot.
