While it's still under what was offered, I suspect they were trying to make you feel good by knocking money off MSRP. It all comes out of the same pot, so really, you were probably paying MSRP on the 370Z and getting good trade for your car.
Dealers use NADA to sell you a used car and KBB to screw you on trades.
oh i got the quote a month before i went in, the quote was 31,419+ ttl
which is about 2500 under msrp
when i went in they tried to put down the msrp on the worksheet and i'm like no man, the quote i got was 31,419 from the fleet manager, they verified and said ok. that was when they pulled the 12.5k trade in and i lmao'd.
i expected to be lowballed to ~15k and was hoping for ~16k. it had been about 2 weeks since i got the trade in quotes from mitsubishi and lexus of 16.5 ish and i figured it would go down 500 in that time frame.
they also tried to screw me on financing. i know my fico, and roughly what my auto enhanced fico is. they gave me a rate of 8.99, i said no thx, they quickly went to 6.99 and thats the best they could do. again i said no thx, i am financing thru my CU for 4.98%, i'm going thru them. they came back again with 5.99 which is the lowest nissan house financing is on the Z.
i'm sure they will have no problems selling it, which is probably why they lowballed so much. there's hardly any manual Z's around, and on top of that it's hard to find a base w/ sport package since i had to wait 3 mos for it haha
so they buyers market in cars at least in this case, was countered by the rarity of the car/options. i understand that. (laugh)
