So I almost died and nobody seemed to care

time for u to come to canada
my asthma went away when I got here from Hong Kong.
I'm not sure what triggers ur asthma though. mine was trigger by bad air.

hope u feel better man

Yeah, moving to Florida from North Carolina helped me alot. Seem to be less allergens here than in the mountains of NC. Not to mention the cold air which can constrict the airways. I noticed I was having a bit of a hard time breathing in January in the cold air of Ukraine.

Have you (no rotor) seen an allergist yet? That may really help you.

BTW - for those of you on prescriptions. Make sure you shop for the best price. Generally speaking, Sam's Club has the cheapest prices on prescription medicine and you do not have to be a member to shop at the pharmacy. I'm not making this up, I worked on a story for CNN on this a couple of months ago.

And there is a proposal for the local city to allow our sam's club to expand. I do like the service we get at our Walgreens though. But with so many medications, If I can save a few hundred bucks a year, I will have to change.

There is a reason that you can fill your prescriptions nine days in advance of your next scheduled refill. Sounds like you didn't do that.
Admittedly, he said it was his fault but there's something else to consider here. Depending on your insurance, sometimes you can't refill early. When my wife was taking Effexor, we constantly had problems with the insurance denying us even a couple of days early and found ourselves unable to even attempt a refill until the last minute ... at which point we frequently had to call around to find a pharmacy that even had the stuff. After she had to deal with Effexor withdrawls a few times (very, very unpleasant), we just got her doctor to switch her to something else.

But anyway, the point is that a lot of problems can be caused by insurance. They just don't care and the pharmacies usually don't either ... they just want to get paid.

I still rock the white Warrick albuterol inhaler a couple times a day, sometimes less. Living in a big city like Chicago sucks for asthmatics. I had hoped that i would outgrow this, but I have yet to. it's been 15 years.

just woke up and feeling much better today, the nebulizer had an immediate effect last night so i avoided thedreaded hospital bill. today is the day where i drink plenty of fluids and cough up yellow lung butter every 5 minutes

i dont have health insurance thats why the hospital was out of the question

i have had asthma since birth and have very severe asthma, i saw numerous specialists when i was younger when i was on my parents health plan

today since i cant afford all the meds i usually just have an inhaler which i take 3-4 times a day, although yesterday i was taking it every 15 minutes because the effects were wearing off that fast, thats why i needed the liquid

considering i called walgreens 4 hours earlier i dont think bumping me up the line should have been a problem. when i go to the emergency room i am immediately priority #1 because they at least realize what is going on and respect that i could die at any second

walgreens pharmacy will get theirs as soon as summer gets here:)

for those who have never had an asthma attack you can do a simple test to recreate one....take a small bar stirring straw and try to breathe through it, you may get enough air if your lungs are strong, but imagine being like that and not being able to take the straw out of your mouth for 4 hours

long story short again, i am back to my ornery self today pickle pirates :)

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I think there's no worse feeling in the world than not being able to breathe (except maybe giving birth). But I still stand behind my assertion that Walgreens did nothing wrong. They just didn't go out of their way to help you. BTW - if I were in your situation I would probably be upset too. But I think retribution is uncalled for - just take your business elsewhere (if you can).

techinally no they did nothing wrong, but hey techinically i didnt need to hold the door at the doctors for the old lady who could barely walk, but i did cause i have feelings and dont like to see people suffer

they could give a s*** about my condition, they were there to work and thats all, who gives a s*** if a customer is suffering tremendously

maybe they will shed a tear and have some compassion some night when they walk out to their cars:)

oh yeah it wont be me who does anything. it is amazing what you can get done just by buying the right person a few cases of beer

Can I ask why you don't have health insurance? Maybe I missed it in one of the above posts.

Because I am not full time employed and I can't afford to get insurance on my own.

I am rather healty overall, it's just the damn asthma that causes issues so the cost of health care would be alot more per year than I pay on asthma meds. I only pay about $200 a year on asthma meds(not the ideal ones, but they work) and insurance would be about that much per month!

I know it isnt his fault and the point of my post wasnt to state I thought they were wrong in not refilling my prescription, but I think the "head" pharmacist should have the right to make a judgement call in emergencies where non narcotic drugs are involved

He could easily look up my records and see all my prescriptions are asthma related and that I am obviously not calling trying to score drugs, I just want to get better

However they were at fault for making me wait over 3.5 hours before realizing the prescription couldnt be refilled at all and then another 30 minutes waiting in line gasping for breath. That is what I am extremely pissed about, they could have handled it alot better and not made me suffer like they did.

I hate it worse when I see elderly people trying to decide if they should eat or get thier meds that month. Never in any other country would you see that. Most other countries worship thier elderly. America just shuns them. (I personally dont think they should drive, but I do respect them for what they have done and provided our country)

Unfortunately we are a society that's programmed to take pills to make our problems go away. Seniors are addicted. They are being taken advantage of by the healthcare system becuause their only choice is to 'take pills-feel better' or die. Instead of taking time to figure out the roots or origins of a problem, it's much easier to pass someone a pill that makes their 'symptoms' go away -but does not solve anything. Drug companies love this. Life expectancy was never supposed to be as high as it is. Seniors are living off of Social Security longer than our Government expected...the only way to offset that balance is to addict them to drugs for the rest of their life while they (and drug companies) laugh all the way to the bank. s***, the last time i saw my mom i took a peek in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom....it was like freakin' 'Drugstore Cowboy', only worse.

Get a part time job at UPS. You get GREAT medical coverage, all for getting a workout while moving some boxes.

Been there....i get strep alot and when i wasn't insured i had some bad times....last time i had a fever of 103....it was really bad. I had never shook so violently..

I had inherited asthma as a child. I was admitted to the emergency room enough times to have stock or been on the board of directors. lol

My mom finally had enough after my last bad attack when I was 12. I was in the ER on a respirator, was down to 35% lung capacity and had to get 4 shots to bring me back to normal. I was on an inhaler for a while afterward, but my doctor told us that steriod shots would work best. So I took steriods by injection for about a year and it seemed to quell the problem.

But ever since I was a teenager, I always wanted to do things that my doctor and family thought I'd never be "normally" able to do. Like joining the Marines and being able to run 5 miles at someone elses pace was definetly the biggest test for me. Hell, even when I was in labor I had to get supplemental oxygen so as not to have an attack. But thanks to the steriod treatment when I was younger and building up my body to be used to the excersize I endured, I havent had a problem since. And there are plenty of other athletes out there that do track and even in the NFL that have their asthma under control with little to no medication. And right now, my last actual asthma attack is STILL when I was 12 and I dont take anything anymore. I just pay attention to the warning signs and get it under control myself.

Talk to your doctor about alternative treatments besides the inhalors and nebulizers. It may not work for everyone, but it DEFINETLY helped me. I hope you dont have that problem again with the pharmacy. Good luck to you.

The worst part of not having health care, is having bad. I had 180/126 (that is correct) blood pressure on my 30th birthday checkup. I am not on medication to bring it under control.

With my crap coverage, I was spending $400 a month for blood pressure, heart, and asthma meds. It was insane. New job is only $100 a month or so now, sometimes $150.

I feel for ya without coverage. Nobody will just take on anyone with a prexisting condition, it would have to be a new job that offered coverage no matter what.

Hope it all works out.
