So how many miles on your stock speed3 tires?

I looked at mine at 5k and was like holly s***!

I realize that now I have to rotate them every 2500 miles and when I go in for oil changes at 5k I will have the dealer rotate and balance them.

Friends dad just did a tread maeasurement and fronts were at 5/32 and rears 8/32 but I am not sure what they started at. Looking at the rears they look nearly new so I assume somewhere around 8/32 was where it started.

I dont drive crazy all the time just jump on it here and there and dont corner like crazy too often either.

If I can pull 15-20k out of these tires I am thinking they are the best choice for the car and would buy them again but friends dad said I will likely get 12k out of them is all.

Also if you look at the outer edge of the tire then look 1 row in there is a sort of stretched "S" groove pattern in the tire and that s*** is so thin its near the stabilizer bar below it already. There is a stabilizer bar on each strip pattern of the tire but its odd that the "S" design will be long gone before the tire is even near the wear bar that is perpindicular to the tire. Why do you think that is?

And if anyone knows a good tire choice for cheaper then $200 each let me know. I hear the Kumos are pieces of s*** so I wont put $500 of crap on the car if I can put $800 worth of money well spent.

Man I dont see how you have 7/32 if I have 5/32 at 5k miles and dont run it hard either.

I put more PSI in the tires as well since the stock 32 and 34 psi made the fronts look too low. I run 40 and 42 psi now with the 42 being the front tires.

I am going to have to rotate them 2500 so I cant imagine how you are getting 7500 miles unless its all highway driving. I am mostly on side streets driving daily for work from house to house for home health Physical Therapy.

I will grab a guage and check them myslef maybe my friends dad didnt do it right.

When you look at the outer edge of your tires they dont look close to the stabilizer bar? Mine quickly are getting close to the bars under the tread patterns. There is still a ton of meat on them but the designs in the tread arent far away from the designs cut in the tire. The actual wear bar is way down in the tread so based on that I have a ways to go I guess.

I can't wait until mine wear out and I "justify" buying some 225/45-18s on a set of 18" X 7.5" wheels.

15K miles is about all you can expect out of these tires unless you drive VERY cautiously and live in a cooler climate.

Running higher pressure then rec. can cause the center section of the tire to wear out faster then the outside edges. Opposite goes for running less pressure. Also the suspension of the car is designed to work optimally at the rec. pressure since it was designed around the wheel and tire sizes. The tires absorb the initial impact and transfer it into the other suspension components. I have seen stabilizer end lnks break and shocks blow out simply because the person driving the car added more air to make the front tires not look so low.

Yeah and don't worry about them "looking too low"

As long as the pressure is reading correct at the factory recommended setting then you're OK. Don't forget these are radial tires (not bias ply)and are suppose to bulge a bit on the ground.

42psi!? Egads man, no wonder they're wearing out!

No they were wearing out fast at the 32 psi front I just now put 42 in front. I may try drop the pressure a bit to like 36/38 front/rear but 32 seems much too low and I think that is why the outsides looked more worn then the insides.

Sounds like you ned to contact Bridgestone or the Dealer.

Based on what other people are saying and my own experience you may just have a bad set of tires. Or you maybe driving it harder than you think- or the roads in your area are wearing them prematurely. 32 psi is standard for many vehicles. Maybe your aligment is off...

Did you get the alignment checked? You can still leverage the 12 month 12,000 mile period for adjustments. I'd talk to your dealer. High psi will have it's own set of issues.

They arent that bad and I dont think its a deffect or alignment.

Like I said I have 5/32 at the front and 8/32 at the rear I guess I just need to rotate more. I hardly drive highway and its all stop and go driving I do so I wonder if that is harder on them.

I will drop the psi back down a bit but the tires max psi is rated at 50psi so there shouldnt be any issue with running 40 psi in them.

The Max psi is unrelated to the car the tires are on.

I think you know this whitey, but the max psi has no relation to the car the tires are on. That rating just indicates maximum safe pressure for the tire. Mazda dictates what psi will work best for the car. In this case 32 psi.

Rotating them maybe your best bet.

Yeah I realize that Mazda set that psi but I have been told that its for a softer ride and best handling. Its not for the best wear of the tire or anything like that from what I can understand.

hey what do you think of these tires?

They are 2x the tread life but still high performance and cost less. The 2 closest size options are 215-40-18 or 225-45-18 any input on these? Apparently they came stock on the SRT-4's so that must be a good thing.

I live in the Northeast, so they wouldn't be practical

Yeah, one of the things I compromised on when I got married was winter tires. Instead I buy Ultra HP All Seasons (I have Michaelin Pilot Sport A/S on my 3 and 5.

When I get the MS3 I'll probably go with the Pirelli All Seasons. Or go for the Michelins in a compatible size (they don't come in the stock 215/40/18).

haha, yep, exactly what i'm thinking. i need some kind of excuse.

12k so far. Still lookin good! Running recommended pressures and rotating at every oil change. One alignment when I had my springs installed.
