Snowing in GA 2009

The weather was so bad that my flight got cancelled and I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Dru is on her way to work, says the roads are horrible, and that a 3-car accident just happened in front of her when the SUV directly in front of her spun around and out of it's lane, where another car hit it, and a third plowed into them!

She's teaching at a daycare center that is probably the only school-type thing in all of Northern VA that's still open today. Hopefully she makes it there and back OK, she's got Lucas with her.

When I lived out there, we got 6" of snow once, and schools were out for a week. Nobody knows how to deal with that s***. Then again, every time it snows here in WI, where everyone should know better, there are asshats all over in the ditch, even when the roads aren't that bad. (dunno)

Say whaaaaaaaaat?

I am now convinced that I will get a CX for the wife...snow sucks donkey balls.

The roads are bad, full of salt and stupid drivers.

One freak snowfall and you're going to go buy AWD? Probably not necessary.

BTW, AWD only helps with the "going" part of driving. It's the more dangerous "stopping" and "turning" parts that'll still be tricky.

Well....she wanted an SUV as a daily.
Plus...both the P5 & the Miata are lowered with front lips.
After driving in a X3 on the first day here, then a Nissan SUV today and a Lincoln Navigator...it shows that the wives of the guys around here have SUVs for good reason.
I don't see myself driving the Miata during the winter. And after seeing all the crap left in the road after salting and plowing...I don't want to risk the protege either. So, I indeed have my reasons.

I lived in the DC area for 3 years, and only remember one significant snowfall. A big, heavy SUV is going to be harder to stop in slippery conditions and more likely to tip under any conditions. Doesn't sound safer to me. (shrug)

but... but... but... it's 4x4 d00d! (yupnope)

Hmmm...true.
Also we'll need the space for the kids (when we have them) and the dog (when we get one of those too).

Over all...it'll probably be more convenient having something that rides a bit higher up. I don't really want a beater. The kicker is that its something she has her mind set on...oh well....I personally do not like Stupid Useless Visionblockers (SUVs)...but happy wife = happy life.

Forester/Outback handles decently, takes on snow like a champ, and has more than enough room for kids and dogs. My Forester gets 25+/- mpg as well.

Speaking objectively, in my experience, high (within reason) makes loading a kid in a car seat easier, depending on your height (my wife and I are tall), but makes it difficult for dogs to jump in and out. My 80 lb dogs didn't like jumping up into my Avalanche or Grand Cherokee, but love my Forester. My wife (5'9") preferred loading the kid into the GC over the Forester, but I don't notice the difference--probably related to strength more than anything.

BTW, my wife often suggested that we take the Jeep instead of the MS6 when we had both and it was raining...because it was "safer". Happy != Right. I prefer to keep her actually safe. Hopefully, it's never an issue, but I think safety is a better formula for long-term happiness.

Related to CoG and it's benefits: My son just reached into a box to grab a leash that had caught his eye, when he leaned too far and his giant toddler head prevented him from getting back upright. LOL! ...but now he's crying, so not so much.

Stuart Mackenzie: Look at the size of that boy's heed.
Tony Giardino: Shhh!
Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, it's like an orange on a toothpick.
Tony Giardino: Shhh, you're going to give the boy a complex.
Stuart Mackenzie: Well, that's a huge noggin. That's a virtual planetoid.
Tony Giardino: Shh!
Stuart Mackenzie: Has it's own weather system.
Tony Giardino: Sh, sh, shh.
Stuart Mackenzie: HEAD! MOVE!

Is that from "So I Marriend an Axe Murderer?" Cause that's what it sounds like... anyone remember that part of that movie? Mike Myers' "dad" in that movie.

WTF does that mean? I'd call it pulling an Eddie Murphy long after Eddie Murphy did it. I can't think of anyone who did it before him, but it's entirely possible that it happened.
