Snow Storm vs. MSP w/ oem tires

Snow storm wins...The tires on this car really can't handle snow at all. I couldn't go up a small slope whereas a civic easily does it.

BTW, I got stuck twice and had to rev my engine up and I really worried about the engine...It smoked a little bit afterwards...Shouls I have it checked it out.

thanks

Yup, the storm kicked my car's ass this morning :(

I had to back down my street several times because I couldn't get started on the very slight up-slope at the end of my street. And there's a damned long red light if I miss the short green. (ripped)

Sorry to hear the summer tires aren't working well in the snow. Maybe some snow tires would be a better choice?

Or maybe performance cars should come with crappy all-seasons...?

Sorry to be such a smart ass but, I really hope this doesn't turn into a 'MSP sux because' thread... especially when people are going to down the stock tires.... that compromise snow traction for warm weather performance...

Luckily I haven't gotten around to selling my old car...and it's still insured/registered. So I drove that to work today.

I know about the summer tires, but I couldn'tt afford new tires and wanted to see if it's ok, but I guess not. It's just too dangerous. On the bright side, my gf said she'll buy me a new set of tires as a xmas gift:) .

Btw, I didn't say anything about the msp sucking...

Good choice.....if you can hold on to it for 3 more months...wash and wax you msp and buy a good cover or garage it for the winter

I just drove my P5 for the first snow it's seen. The tires on it arent the best either. The only thing that stopped me from hitting a car at a stop sign was the curb that I had to steer into. (no damage though)

Im screwed- scene 1

Geesh, not to beat the dead horse but you think with cancer taking out my family I will get a break somewhere but nooooooooo! I first started to spin and backed back in to the work garage and tried to get a nice steady roll going and up the incline I go. Braking good. Finally I turn to go to the on-ramp and some dude in a SUV is on my ass like im his prison b**** on smack. Now im doing good while praying and im keeping it going and "oh" I showed someone my "O" face. I kept going and prayed some more and all green lights thank you sweet lord. Whoa is that a truck doing 70 in a snow storm? Watch out now and in to a wall I go...s***. That was close. The slush stopped me along with ease on brakes.

I sat there waited for traffic to clear. I must say, and this did cross my mind, even on the side of the road in a snow storm my car still looks good :D . Two tow truck guys helped me out by clearing the lane 4 car lengths behind me. Very VERY cool guys. One even said bubba or brother. Couldn't tell but he was cool as hell after chatting it up for five minutes. after backing up and getting out of the 4 inch side of the road slush I was on the roll again. Going down the hill I was easily able to stop even though I was going 1mph.

First time ever getting stuck. Thank you 70 mph truck. Already planned to purchase new tires as soon as I can so no "Your lucky you didn't take out a family that was on their way to visit their grandma" posts :p Oh and just say no to stock tires.

I'm getting all season today (contiextremecontact)...Lucky the snow started to melt a bit yesterday, enough for me to move my car from it's temp parking spot 10 mins away from the garage.

I dont understand peoples mentality with buying a decent pair of tires. It makes simply little, make that, no sense. Think about this: would u rather have a higher chance to ream your car into another on-coming car or into a wall/fence/telephone poll. For $400 you could reduce the nerve-racking snow experiences with a good set of winter tires.

I am sure other people would say this also, but if a sports car with high performance tires smacked into my car on the road, I would sue them for a large amount of money. My case would simply be built around stupidity and high performance tires. Wouldnt even need a lawyer!

I made it though last year just fine with the stock P5 rubber. Only ran into problems once, and that was when my parking lot was dumped with about 4" overnight and I couldn't get the car out of the ruts and up on top of the snow.

Hopefully this winter will be fine too, i'd much rather save the money for winter tires and put it towards some nice 17"s for the summer!

I just got my new Blizzaks on 16" steelies. I will let you know how much they improved as soon as I test them in the snow. As far as stock tires go I have had many front wheel drive cars with low profile tires but this car is the worst. They should put a warning on the visor or something. But I didn't buy it to drive in the snow, its just a necessary evil.

When I asked my gf if I had "permission" to get a different set of tires earlier (last month), she said no, because fwd car should be able to handle ok on snow even with summer tires...Well, it's really funny how fast she changed her mind when she was in the car with me in that storm.

p.s. Being a med student and on a limited budget, everything mod that has anything to do with cars need to go through my gf (actually my fiance)...My mechanic gets a good laugh at my situation....

Ahhh don't worry. By the time you get married it will be second nature to ask your woman for permission :D I will enjoy being single as long as I can.

We don't need more warnings on everything, people should think more. We should not have all of these damn threads about how bad our SUMMER tires are in the WINTER...

hmmm, should I post a thread about how uncomfortable it is when I wear shorts while shoveling snow? How about how crappy my snowmobile is for surfing?

well i guess i should goto the junkyard, and try to find some really cheap rims.
And then some real cheap tires.. still spending 500 bucks sucks.
