snow driving - some questions

Can anyone confirm this? Reason I ask is I see a set of four 215/45/17 Blizzaks on ebay for $175, slightly used. I'd get them, but if they're not going to be much better than some all-seasons then there's no point. Also does anyone know a good place online to get some cheap steel wheels? I've been looking through a few of the sites posted in this thread and only found these Unique brand ones for $68 a piece.

IMO winter tires are always better than all seasons. All season tires compromise to make the tire perform "ok" in all seasons. Well worth the money to have a winter and summer set. As for the 215/45/17 Blizzaks, I am actually running those on my car. I would disagree with the "walking" of the front end as that only happens when you try to accelerate like a mad man in snow, not possible no matter what tires you have.

I don't recommend using the stock Racing Harts in winter tho. The salt destroys the finish and now mine look like s***. If I didn't get the car with those tires already on them, I would have bought some steelies. But I did luck out and get some 03.5 rims for cheap that I have for summer. (lol2)

If you do go with the eBay tires watch out for the "snow tread" wear line. It is a separate wear bar that is higher than the "tires are shot" bar. This is when the optimal winter compound is gone. Still better than a all-season, just FYI.
