Smoking turbo TSB

I don't know if you guys have received a letter from Mazda or not. I did this past week. Mazda has extended the smoking turbo TSB to 70000 miles. The updated TSB replaces the turbo without the 5w40 trial. It also includes a ventilation update. The news here isn't the skipping of the 5w40 trial or the turbo really, its the 70000 mile cutoff and the ventilation upgrade (didnt go into details). There is also a TSB for the variable valve timing but I didn't read the whole TSB yet.

If you paid for a replacement Mazda turbo, you can be reiumbursed as well.

Finally! Although mine was already replaced under warranty...

I go this at the same time and brought my car in for the vent kit (smoking turbo for sure). Car went in today for the kit, we'll see if it fixes the smoke.

Need to take mine in for the turbo problem and hopefully get reimbursed for the vvt repair I had a few months ago.

Got my notice a couple of weeks ago too. Is this up to the discretion of the dealer whether or not to fix it, or do you just bring in your letter and they apply the kit no questions asked?

They want to put in the ventilation kit as a the first step in trouble shooting the turbo. Once installed, they will want you to look to see if smoke or power loss occurs or is still present. If yes, then they should look to replace the turbo as the next step. Changes are if you are seeing smoke then there is already damage to the turbo. In my case, they put the kit on, it smoked even more, plus the gasket around the kit leaked oil on my engine the same day. They responded quickly and fixed the vent kit and put in a brand new turbo too. good to go.
