I hear a lot of people here that say their speed6 smokes.
Is this happening to the guys/gals that have downpipe/exhaust only or also people with stock exhaust systems?

My speed6 is for the most part stock. The exhaust system on my car is stock except for the second cat being gutted.
I never have had a smoke problem.

Be sure that you guys are using 5W30 oils. Our cars DO NOT use 5W20.
Some oil change places and some dealerships think the speed6 requires 5W20.

The regular 2.3L does take 5W20, but the speed6 takes 5W30.
I remember when the speed6 first came out, there were sources mixing information about what oils to put in the speed6 compared to the regular 2.3L.
Mabey for those of you who used 5W20 are smoking?
I want to know what the deal is because I haven't heard of people having problems here in HOT LasVegas.

Well I found the thread i was looking for the other day... Any how my car has smoked off and on over the course of me owning the car. Its been fixed one time prior and is about to go in again. The first time they said it was a coolant leak and this time they are saying its the PCV valve. I just installed the CP-E DP and exhaust and it is definitely more noticeable now...to the point where it smokes almost everytime I idle in traffic, that is until I park and break out the camera and it magically stops for some reason. Its actually started to come up from the engine bay now as well so im not sure what the deal is. Regarding the oil I called MazdaUSA and they said it wouldnt make that much of a difference having 5w20 vs 5w30...especially not enough to stop the oil from leaking in. And I checked my last oil change the dealership did and they put 5w20 in as well, MazdaUSA just stated that it was probably what the kept in stock in their service dept.

I'd be willing to bet it's your turbo. I had this problem as well.

My car would smoke like achimney when it was stock. I put a DP on, no cats and still had the same problem.

I would get to a stop light, and the car would smoke like it was nobody's buisines, it was sort of embarrasing.

I swapped turbos and not an ounce of smoke comes from my tailpipes now. And I think I've got about the same amount of miles on each turbo now.

Before, with the stock turbo, I would not even open my trunk without shutting the car off, or my clothes would just reak all day.

Now It's not a big deal, even with no cats on.

They are supposed to replace the seals on tuesday so I'll see if that stops it. Hopefully they dont say anything about the DP/Exhaust. I dont see how they could since it was a pre existing condition but who knows.

Well for sh*ts and giggles I decided to try something today. I drove all the way home from work while shifting before 3K and staying out of boost. Sure enough the car didnt smoke one time while idling at several different lights where it will usually smoke screen the hell out of the person behind me.

On a different note when it does smoke it has also begun to ever so slightly come from underneath the hood...which makes me wonder if the DP has been installed properly.

Well scratch all that sh*t, it just happened to be chance that it didnt smoke that day although it does smoke more after WOT. They replaced the PCV seal and of course didnt do anything to help the situation. Im takin it back in tomorrow and hopefully they will replace the turbo since it seems to correct the problem of most of the cars. I was a circuit city today after buying some cd's, I decided to chill in the parking lot so I could load them into the changer and by the time I started to leave I had the whole lane of the parking lot full of smoke.

***Plus side they didnt have anything to say about the DP being installed, which I wouldnt think they would since its all after the engine / turbo.

Picked it up from the dealer today, they were unable to reproduce the smoke...which is amazing considering what it did before. Even had the service guy ride with me for a few minutes to see if it would start and sure enough it didnt. He said Mazda wont pay to replace the turbo unless there is smoke inside of it. Good thing is that it hasnt started smoking yet, but we'll see how long that lasts.

***He also said they're getting MS3's in with the smoking issues.

What did they do this visit that made it stop smoking? Change anything???

Not really, he just said there was some coolant that leaked out and he cleaned all the lines and such. It stopped for a few days but now its starting again slowly but surely. The only problem is that I have to make sure its doing it again when I take it in there so I can let it smoke the service lane and there is no denying it. Not that I think he is, the individual working on my car seems to be pretty straight forward and said he could give a s*** about the downpipe or a CAI being on the car. Basically hes not going to run and tell the service advisor its there. He also said they have plenty of them coming in for the smoke and also MS3's , but Mazda cant figure out a fix for it.

I have hardly any problem with excessive smoke, and I have zero cats :D.

The only time I look like a diesel is when I punch it when the car is somewhat cold (which doesnt' happen very much).
