ok so am pretty sur ethat this topic has been talked about ever since the speed came out but how the hell do i fix the damn smoking problem!!! it gets really annoying especially when i got the 08 model which should be an upgrated turbo from the 07 and i still smoke randomly . . . all i have on is a CS FMIC and a TurboSmart DualPort . . . i heard it can be fixed but reinforcing the pcv valve and getting an OCC . . . can any1 point me to the right direction and give me some advice!?!?!?!? BTW it smoke inconsitent and randomly like when i change the oil then wont smoke for a good 3weeks to a month so am pretty sure its not the turbo seal . . . i want to upgrade the exhaust so i dont want to be smoking like a chimney xD
plz any help would be grateful (cheers)

had the same problem. got an oil catch can and it hasnt smoked since. empty every oil change and theres always a good half a cup of gas and oil nastyness.

PTP's PCV fix has worked for a lot of people, including me. It's cheap too.

What are the amounts of smoke we're talking about when this happens. I saw a video awhile back that had a smoking car in it, and it looked like a fog machine, is this the same for everyone when they start smoking, or are we talking about varying levels ?

If this ever happens to my speed outside of warranty I will attack three ways.
  1. PTP plug fix
  2. Catch Can
  3. Drain the crankcase and fill with 10W40

If that doesn't work, I'll either go with the rebuilt from PG or the unit from Brian at BNR that uses a new center section and bearings.

You will not have any question when/if it happens to you.

well am just getting a light smoke not like a blowen seal and it smells like bad filthy oil so i know it has something to do with the oil and yeah am heading that way...
1. PTP PCV
2. OCC
3. 10W40

Thanks guys really appreciate!!!!!!!!
;D

Actually I think I mis-typed. I meant 10W30 not 40 but either would likely work fine especially in summer. There's a TSB from Mazda about smoking turbo's and the first thing they instruct the dealer to try is thicker oil in the crankcase. If you search or check the stickies, you will also see some information about the K04 turbo used in other makes IE Audi and VW and the suggestion from those MFGrs to run 20W50. Turbo seals aside, I'm unaware of how well an oil that thick would work in the MZR motor. It's farther off the OEM viscosity spec and I don't have tech info on the oil passages and bearing clearances of this thing, whether or not that would be an issue etc. I don't recall a single member here running anything that thick with success either. More likely it would slimply cost you a bit of HP and mileage but I don't know for sure.

my 2007 speed3 does this randomly too!! white smoke pours out of the exhaust...never did this until i got a downpipe..i have a bov,dp,intake, catback, high pressure tubing, and turbo inlet
