I have an 02 ES 5spd w/52k miles on it. Lately I am getting an annoying buzzing/rattling sound around 2000 to 2500rpm in the right side of the dash board. The dash seems tight and I've pressed everywhere when I hear it and I can't seem to locate it. I've looked through the glovebox opening and everything seems secure in there also. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

it's still happening

While driving it seems to come from up inside the glove box so I took the glove box door off to see if anything was loose in there and everything was fine. Had my wife rev the engine to 2500-2700 rpm while I listened. It 's so hard to trace - it sounds like it's in the upper right hand side of dash and/or on the outside front/right of the firewall area. I checked under the hood and tightened all bolts in that area-all were fine but I snugged them a little more - still the same buzzing/rattle - right between 2500-2700 rpms. It almost makes me want to get rid of the car over this. Any suggestions as to what else I can check?
Thanks!

I have an '02 1.6 with the same buzzing sound at front-right.

In my case I'm thinking it has something to do with the weather - the buzzing started just the last few days when the temperature dropped (and stayed) below freezing. It actually is off and on now... I'm trying to see if it disappears only when the car warms up....

check the items in your door pocket. its got to be something under the hood that is vibrating against something. make sure eveything is held, clamped, bolted, taped, nailed, glued, etc. its got to be one of those

Jericho, I noticed today that there was very little buzzing noise, and the weather was in the low 60's, so I think cold weather causes the metal to expand which exagerates the noises. That explains why I haven't noticed this all summer. I'll keep looking though. There's got to be something close enough to rub when the weather gets cold.
Thanks

i've heard a couple buzzing noises from my protege that i've fixed for the time being. the first is the shift knob, for some reason when i changed out the stock knob, the boot rattles. I know i swore up and down it came from the dash. then i noticed if i held down the boot it would stop. my GF fixed the problem with a hair tie. The second sound came when i was ::cough cough:: going over 85, i assumed it was too much wind pressure on the A/C or heat inlet. it even made the sound when the air was off. hope i helped.
M.C.
