Six speed MT Reverse Gate Broken? 2014 Mazda5

New 5 owner here, 2014 with the six speed manual.

I’ve seen a few posts about the reverse gate / lockout on the six speed manual transmission being worn out or not working. Mine has a little bit of resistance between the first gear “column” and reverse column when I push to the left, but if I keep pushing it easily slides over to the reverse column, no gear shift pushing-down required.

I took the shift cover off and I see a plastic tab at the bottom of the shifter which looks like it is supposed to be connected or interfacing with something, but it is just hanging out down there.

Can anybody tell me if something is broken or disconnected in my shifter assembly (pic attached, I hope).

Thanks!

This is the part that breaks (see images). I ended up purchasing a 3D model replacement part and had a service print it out. That took a couple of weeks to get done, so in the meantime I JB welded the old part back together. Surprizingly, the JB weld repair lasted just long enough for the 3D printed part to arrive. It's easy to install and is a pretty chunky peece of nylon. Hopefully it holds up better than the original.
