Sirius setup advice - 2003 Protege

Hey guys,

My wife owns a 2003 Protege ES with the stock in-dash 6-cd changer and wants a Sirius setup for Christmas. Ideally, we'd like something that will plug into both the car (via some sort of interface, preferably with the factory HU directly) and a boombox-type radio for home use. Anyone have experience with this? Anyone have pic or a drawing of the rear of the factory HU? An aftermarket HU is not an option at this point. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not too familiar, but my cousin uses those RF modulator thingies, its not too clear... i wouldn't use them.

Crutchfield link

I don't see there being another option if she wants to keep the stock HU.

It's one of those modulators/adapters that lets you pick a radio frequency channel, and it will transmit what is playing on your sirius unit onto that frequency channel.. But using that would degrade quality, which defeats the purpose of Sirius. Sirius provides you many different stations in higher quality. Using this adapters will make it sound a lil worse than FM (well at least the few ones i came across).

Sorry, the only way I would do sirius is get a sirius ready aftermarket head unit. Hopefully someone else here can help you out and tell u another way.

Yep, you have to have a sirius-ready HU. Otherwise, you're stuck with the RF modulator...and yes, they suck.

That link did not work for me. I went to the main site and searched for Sirius. I got a message saying they did not carry and Sirius products.

What does P.I.E. stand for?

I am in the same boat. My GF has a 2003 Protege5. I have a 2004 Mazda 3 and found that I can purchase something called a P.I.E. that will allow me to connect my sirius reciever directly to my factory HU.

See it here: http://www.myradiostore.us/auxadapters/pie/factory/no-external-changer/maz-pc-alp.html

So, is everyone positive that there is no device like this for the protege5?

edit: link fixed
Thanks for the link. I'm pretty sure my Partners 2004 Mazda 3 has a Factory CD changer in it. Can I use this cable to add Sirius to that, or does this work in place of the CD changer?

It will not effect the factory in dash 6 disc changer. From what I understand when you plug this PIE in, you push the CD button twice and the display will read EX and play whatever is connected to the PIE.
