kind of teeing off this thread but i'm also looking to do a HKS SSQV in the near future and need to get hard pipes.. are they really all ~$300??? seems expensive. And is the black HKS SSQV a replica/knockoff or will it work/sound the same?

I've had two "Black Edition" SSQVs pass through my hands at this point. Both have been knockoffs. Up to you if you want to take the chance. If you want to be sure you get a real one, order directly from HKS. (Japan, as USA has closed their doors due in part to people buying knockoffs to save a buck or two instead of the real thing. Take that comment how you will.) The fact that you can consistently find the "Black Edition" for at least $100 cheaper than the "normal" unit doesn't make me feel real confident about it.

That all said, i'm not 100% impressed with the SSQV. It was cool a decade or so when it was introduced. BOVs have come a ways since then. Solid choice, but likely no longer the best choice.

I guess it just comes to personal taste. I like the hks whistle, but I also like the Turboxs BOVs their relatively cheap and are loud as hell!

Ya the cheap black editions are def fake. I got one for $120 and it was fake! the real hks and replica hks sound different. real HKS has their signature whistle and is alot louder than the replica. The replica hks has a hissing sound. But if you just want a bov that does the job, then the replica one worked fine for me. I had it for about a year before i got the real hks. i agree that if you really want to get a hks bov thats real the best way to get it is through HKS

Interesting that you rate if a BOV is good or not based on their sound.

.... There's more to BOV performance than just sound. Modding a car for performance, i could not care less what it sounds like. The SSQV does sound good, but that has nothing to do with my post. ;)

no the car is all stcok i dont have hard pipes or anything only the stock ones and i was looking at the hks one and i think thats the one am probably going to get am also still looking to get a single guage pod that does like behind the stering wheel. tahnks for the advice

I have the stock pipes and my car has a forge BOB that has a rubber thing that connects it and the actual BOV part. It is on the pipe coming from the turbo to the top of the intercooler. It sounds okay, not loud.
