Simple Subwoofer Setup

today i finally got my (most) of my audio system installed into my "new" P5. it's nothing too fancy. basically consists of a Blaupunkt Austin CD-41 headunit, a Sony XPLOD 1200watt 2-channel amp (well actually that's a lie...it SAYS 1200watts, but it's actually 250wrms per channel) and two JL 12W0's in a JL Powerwedge sealed box. i have the subs setup in a series circuit, as opposed to parallel just because it was easier. i might change it later, i might not. yup. did all the wire routing, soldering, etc by myself. i haven't replaced the in-car speakers because target is an hour-cutting *****.

THe power wendge boxes typcily use 8 ohm subs so the box should be a total of a 16 ohm load right now which means you aren't going to get dick out of that amp. Paralleling it will give you a 4 ohm total load which is where the amp should want to be.

*shrug* you're probably right, but it sounds fine to me. i have these as more of an addition to the sound anyways, having just bass and nothing else is annoying.

I still wire them correctly and lower the gain as needed. If the blapunk has a seperate sub out then turn that down as needed aswell.

Its easy to wire a JL in parallel as they typicly have 2 spade connection points per terminal.

What amp did you buy? 250 watts per sub is a bit overkill for 12w0s. They can take it but they really only need 125 watts each.

yeah i know, and because of that i don't really have them cranked up too high. right now i'm looking into prices for a nice set of used 12W3's. the amp is a Sony XPLOD, don't know the exact model number.
