Silver Star H4's?

I have the H4 Silverstars, and I love them. They are the closest thing I can think of to HID... Excellent buy, worth the money.

just wonderin if anyone has tried these out , i know they're not gonna be close to HID's but i dont really want to get a pair of those so-called 'hyper-white' cuz I think the blue tint of the bulbs make them look cheezy. thanks.

they have em here: http://www.autobarn.net/sylsilh4.html

Subject: [Miata] Slyvania Silver Star Headlight

Since everybody was talking about the Sylvania Silver Star headlights, I though I would share my impressions as I just installed a set on my 90'. They are part number H6024ST, picked them up for $42 for the pair at Advanced Auto (buy one get one half price deal) and there is a $10 mail in rebate.

First off, they do not look too much fancier then regular replacement headlights, I was expecting them to be more like the Hella's, with more precise cuts in the glass to better distribute and direct the light.

My test drive; they give off a much whiter light the regular halogens do. Not a whole lot brighter though. Things just appear whiter instead of the normal yellowish cast. The light cut off on the drivers side is noticeably sharper. They do project more light to the sides of the road then the regular lights, but, not a huge amount more. The brights are not much brighter the low beams, but still a little brighter and whiter then the regular lights.

Are they worth it? I had caught a rock on one of my lights a few nights ago, so I had to replace at least one. So in my case, needing new light(s) it was probably worth the extra expense. I would have been disappointed if would have taken out two perfectly good regular halogens. I will probably try a set of european spec Hella's at some point in time as I do quit a bit
of night time driving.

Just my .02 cents worth..........

Shaun

back when I originally decided to sell the mp3, I took out my PIAA's, and decided to put the stock ones in. I did notice a difference, but it was nothng to get really excited about. The light is just whiter, and has a little more reach to the sides of the road, and a little in front.

I have the Xtreme whites

sylvania is just a brand name for osram. they are the same bulb, just might be packaged differently. it would have been like buying a plymouth neon as opposed to a dodge neon--same car different brand name.

I initially was going get get H4/H3 PIAA Super Plasma GT-X's, but after reading the trouble some people had with PIAA bulbs blowing early (and not to mention the $$ of these bulbs), I opted not to buy then.

How about Solaris? - anybody try them?

Anways, the more I look into these Silverstars, the more I like them. Can you get H3's as well (for the fogs)?

Actually I hear that the Osram Silverstars from over seas dont have a blue light filter on them like the US Silvanias do. Which means that they are brighter.. I unfortunately didnt know about this till after I bought the Silvanias..

Wait til Andrew gets ahold of this forum, he has all your lighting answers. :D

Sylvania Silverstar = crap with blue filter = BAD
Osram Silverstar = bright bulb without filters = GOOD

I have Osram Silverstars in my car, people think I have HIDs even though the light is super white without the use of stupid tricks like filters

Ya.. Osram silver stars and Sylvannia silver stars are different....

the Osram one is supposed to be the better one...

TheMAN : Where did you get your osrams from? powerbulbs.com?
