Still on the boat from Japan, but it's mine. This will be my first Mazda, so fingers are crossed. Little disappointed that Mazda saw fit to drop some of the advanced safety features like auto high beam control, lane departure warning, and collision warning. I guess they felt it would raise the price too high for most North American consumers.

I noticed that these new safety features are on vehicles sold in relatively expensive markets like australia, hong kong, saudi arabia, so I don't think they are free.

Welcome! And I wholeheartedly agree with ceric regarding these 3 features. I wouldn't pay a penny for any of them. The 9 is a great vehicle and handle well compared to many SUVs in the same class. I definitely love mine.

Those features in the US are mostly on lux brands. I wouldn't want those features jacking up the price of the CX-9.

Satwar, congrats!! Hopefully the boat doesn't sink on the way over. (eek2) Look on the bright side, the new Nissan Pathfinder goes well into the 40k range, and not only does it not come with xenon lights, or have any projector lens whatsoever, but even on the top of the line trim package, it isn't even an option. So all you get are 10 dollar crappy plastic headlamps on your 45,000 dollar vehicle!

@ HOLOHOLO: At least Mazda isn't as stupid as Chrysler (see Dodge Journey) by putting an explosive device inside the headrests. (oh yes they did). Unlike Audi, Mercedes, and a couple other manufacturers who have spring loaded mechanical safety contraptions in the headrests (non-explosive, purely mechanical), Chrysler thinks it is a good idea to have actual pyro-technic devices inside the headrests. So you have an explosive device just an inch or two from your head. Supposedly is whiplash protection (stupid). 300 bucks a headrest.

Yes it's going to be a long trip. Apparently in the Sea of Japan right now. It will take two weeks to reach dock in Vancouver. Transfer from boat to train takes a week, then a two week train ride across Canada. I hope it's wrapped well. I've never had much luck with new cars in my lifetime. Almost half of them have been damaged in transit, and been repainted without telling me.

I have the 2010 version of your car also with nav. Don't expect to get to know your dealer very well. I just passed 41,000 miles and haven't been back to see mine yet. Zero defects from factory. Oil/filters at local gas station and the biggest maintenance issue I have had in 2.5 years is that I needed to add air to the left front tire once. Still on same tires/brakes and even windshield wipers. Good luck with yours.

Yes, that's my goal. That's why I bought before too many changes were made. The current technology may be slightly dated, but it has been well tweaked with a good track record.

Isn't that illegal ?

If you ask the dealer whether it was damaged during transport, doesn't he have to reveal ? My problem was I saw warning signs each time of shabby paint job but didn't realize the cause until many years later. You almost need a body shop expert with you when you take delivery of a new car.

The place I got mine thought I was off my meds when I crawled under the car with a flashlight to inspect the frame rails & bumper reinforcement area for signs of non-factory primer & corrosion protection, or any other evidence of repairs such as tape lines/dull finish/swirls/etc.

Is is illegal? yes. Do they care?.... Our local VW/BMW/Honda dealer sells people used cars with rebuilt titles and also sells cars with prior records and they don't print carfax reports for their customers. It was shocking at first, but after repeated instances, I can only chuckle at all the poor suckers being taken advantage of.

I can understand the dealers problem, when he receives damaged goods from the manufacturer that he must sell. But surely the manufacturer would compensate the dealer for the devaluation of the vehicle due to transit damage and reveal that damage to the customer. Or is the root of the problem that the manufacturers don't take responsibility for new car transit damage ?

The moment the truck driver/ship/train takes possesion of the vehicle, it becomes the responsibility of either the cargo carrier insurance, or the property of the dealership the vehicle is headed to. Manufacturer has no involvement in anything that happens along the way.

It's a safe bet to buy a Porsche 911 GT3 which comes in an enclosed anti-static trailer which requires an anti-static suit to be worn when entering the trailer or the vehicle to deliver it.

My car is off the boat in Vancouver and on the train coming across Canada. It's coming too fast, the weather's been so cold I haven't been able to clear out my garage yet.
