Shudder when accelerating hard

I bought my MS6 in December. It has approx 6k miles on it now. I've had the two recalls done after 2 instances of check engine lights (stuck shutter valve code and evap code), and I noticed about a month ago (after the first recall work) that I was in 5th trying to accelerate to pass, and the car jerked made a strange noise, a rattling, and I lost torque and then regained it, kinda tuhtuhtuh.. I know this isn't much of a description, but i'm not sure what Ping sounds like, and I'm not sure other forums descriptions of ping would explain what it would sound like for this engine. Is taht what this is? I was pushing the car a bit today and it did this several times when switching into a new gear while pushing it, once from 3rd to 4th and once from 4th to 5th. Not sure what I should do. Thanks for any advice.

Shutter/Torque loss

I experience the same problem from time to time. Mostly when I'm in 5th or 6th gear cruising a little under 3k RPM's, it happens. It happened twice while I was in LA over the weekend. Might have something to do with turbo lag? Not sure. Good thing Courtsey Mazda knows me....

Could this possibly be related to the new TSB regarding variable valve timing bolts? Just a thought.

Lots of people have this problem. I don't think anyone has a definite solution. My DashHawk shows about 7 degrees of knock retard when it happens so I assume it is the ECU pulling timing. Not sure how to really fix knocking other than higher octane fuel (maybe race fuel?).

I've had the same symptoms as you; it happens when in 6th gear rolling @ 60-70 mph between 2500-3000 rpms and as accelerate to pass another car, my car bogs down and I hear a loud rattling noise from an area behind the glove box.

I'm forced to downshift to 5th to avoid a highspeed stall, then the car comes back to "life".

I'm hoping that the VVT TSB and the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) TSB will fix this glitch.

These TSB's, is this something we should be receiving a letter in the mail about like the two previous one's. This shudder or stutter or whatever you want to call it really agravates me and i think mzda needs to fix it.

i just got this today on the freeway, 6th gear, 2700 rpms. no CELs. 22500 miles.

wheres the TSB?

I had this issue a few times and have had the shuter valve replaced 3 times. The 3rd time seemed to do it for the most part. But whenever it would rain or after I washed my car it would do exactly as described. It would shake the car back and forth very violently. An CEL would come on.

I figured maybe I was getting the filter wet since I have a CAI. So I bought a new filter and put the water shield on it as well as a cover to stop water from splashing on it. And I have not had a problem since. Maybe this is not an issue for you guys. Also whats the fuel level when its doing this?

i'm going on a road trip at the end of the month, so i'm gonna try the spark plug change and spring stretch to see if that makes any difference.

I printed up the TSB and I plan on calling my dealer tomorrow for a laundry list of warranty work.

I took my car to the dealer my brother works at and he took out on a test drive with a Mazda Tech and they felt the shutter. The mazda tech said there was a new ECU flash that came out so they programmed the ECU. Since then it hasnt shutter like before.

That sounds like my issue, if so, be prepared for slightly worse gas mileage (2-3MPG). Glad you got it fixed.
