Should I get the 2010 Mazda3 or 2009 Mazda6? Comparison topic!

Hey guys, I'm new to this place :D

Let's get straight to it: My family is about to get a new car soon, and so far, they've narrowed it down to the 2010 Mazda 3, the 2009 Mazda 6 and the 2009 Altima Sedan.

Of those three, my top 2 are, if it wasn't obvious from the topic, the Mazda3 and Mazda6 =9

I like the 3 because of it's new sleek styling (Yeah that's right, I said it), as well as the rave reviews about its handling. I've often read reviewers comparing its driving-feel and handling to BMWs, and I've heard from many sources that although the 3 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, it's actually more prone to OVERSTEERING (particularly the Sedan model) than understeering ... I've never heard of a FWD vehicle displaying anything like that before.. heh. And I'm sure all of us here like oversteering a little more than understeering I should note that we would be getting the Mazda3 GS (i Touring in the US), cause if we got the Grand Touring with the 2.5 engine, well, we might as well get the Mazda6. Which brings me to my next point... LOL..

For the Mazda6... I would be getting the 4 cylinder, so the difference in power wouldn't be toooo drastic. I really like the way the Mazda6 looks; I'd say it's the best looking sedan I've seen (well.. that isn't from a luxury company... and also not including the new Maxima, haha). I've heard the handling is pretty good too.. but what I don't know is if it's as fun to drive as the Mazda6. How does the drivability compare? Does it also feel like a RWD even though it's an FWD, as the Mazda3 supposedly does according to some reviewers?

Of course, I'm gonna go and test drive these two some time soon... but the thing is with test driving, is that you can't really push the car to the limits... it's probably not the best idea to see if the car's gonna can actually start a little oversteering action while the salesguy is in the car with you, hehe...

Anyways, it'd be awesome to hear what you guys think about this!

So, Mazda Forums, how do the Mazda3 and Mazda6 compare? Pros and cons!! =D

I'm partial to the 3. The 6 is bigger but how often do you NEED that extra space? Plus, a 6 in sport trim with mediocre options is gonig to cost about the same as a loaded Grand Touring 3....

Loaded 3 all the way...

I agree with rodslinger. For the money, the Mazda3s Grand Touring is fun to drive, comes with tons of features like AFS, Rain Sensing Wipers, Leather Seats, Heated Seats, Xenon Headlights, Bluetooth, plus... I think they look sweet! It has the same 2.5L I4 that the Mazda6 has but is lighter. I bought a 6spd Manual 3sGT and I love it. It drives like a sports car and looks fantastic. Go with the 4 door, not the 5.

I went through the same thing about 4 months ago. I was driving a 2004 Mazda 3 sedan and was looking to trade. I contemplated the 2010 Mazda 3 (which has great options) and the 2009 Mazda 6. I ended up getting the 5 spd 4 cylinder Mazda 6 and its great. It is a bigger car but i love the room. I decided to get the fully loaded package and its great to drive.

I wouldn't go back to the Mazda 3.

I was in the same situation as 700, I just got my mazda 6 i- grand touring and while we almost got the mazda 3, we went with 6, the better choice hands down. We just to own a 94 626.

I do know my boss has a 2007 MazdaSpeed6 and loves it. Who wouldn't love a Speed6? I just think that you would get a better bang for your buck with the 3 because of the amount of features for the same cost. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mazda6. In fact I was struggling with this when I chose the Mazda3. I just liked the way the 3 handled and felt while driving it and I don't regret my decision. I also like the fact that for the same money I got the "full blown" 3 instead of the "dumbed down" 6.
