2022 CX-5 PP here.
My headlight started making the infamous grinding noise three months ago, and it's getting worse. I should’ve addressed it sooner, but now it’s loud enough to hear inside the cabin when the engine is off.
I ordered two replacement Panasonic fans from AliExpress, but after watching a 2021 headlight teardown, I’m unsure if I can replace them without damaging the assembly. While I’m confident in removing the bumper and swapping the headlight, fully disassembling it looks extremely difficult—the fan is deep in the center on the LED heatsink.
Here’s my dilemma: I’ve pulled the DRL relay, and with summer approaching (longer days, less headlight use), I have time to save up for a new assembly. However, running the light without cooling, even briefly, could kill it.
Should I risk disassembling the light or stick with the DRL-only workaround while saving for a replacement?
Edit: Made this more succinct. Sorry if the edit bumped the thread.
