Should Clear Channel turn stations into-

It seems like the FM/AM are going to spanish speakin because of 2 reasons

1. Spanish population is exploding in the US, in 10 year they are going to be the majority in this country. Thus the radio stations are going to be more tailored to them.

2. As you notice a lot of you posted that you are going to swtich to Sirus/XM. Because of the switch the targeted audience has now shifted from the white/black/asian population. Mainly to the lower class because Satilite radio is more of a luxury to the lower income folks. I hate to say it but the mexicans are going to soon be the next lower class for a few year.

Just wondering, how popular were those stations?
When I left Houston, there were basically 2 rock stations I knew of, 101.1 and something else. lol. I forgot, been here for long enough. Anyways, 101 was extremely popular with the male segment of the population. With the loss of 101, there is now like 1 rock/alternative station in houston. It seriously sucks. And i'm sad to hear that 101 in DC will go the same way eventually, I heard that whole broadcast when they were discussing 101 in houston getting shut down and was dumbfounded. It is evidently the 27th hispanic oriented station in houston metro. So we get 1 or 2 rock stations and 27 hispanic oriented stations? Sorry, but I dont' like latino music. I wasn't too fond of 101, the dj's were kind of crude for me, but it was the metallica station, very similar to 101 here.

Ok that one sucks, but seems understandable. But DC101 isn't a old rock, or metal station. They play alot of music that is currently selling heavily in stores, arghh wish they would hurry up and just say if they or are not.
But that is exactly what they did in Texas, the radio people showed up for work to see a "Mexican" party style going on to find out they were fired. :(

Rock101 WAS very popular. They also did lots of fundraising/events but not as much as the leading rock station 94.5theBuzz. Rock101 was competing mostly with 93.7theArrow. both classic rock, but Rock101 played metal, newer music and had VERY crude djs. it was like being in a biker bar.

Rock101= mechanics & 93.7theArrow=doctors

Their Mandatory Metallica is what I'll miss most, but this is why I listen to cds in the car. Houston stations are around 5:1/Spanish:English broadcasts or something ridiculous like that. Ridiculous in the sense that they are all mainly Tejano. If they had salsa, merenge(sp?), hip hop I'd understand. I think Rock101 is now spanish pop/hiphop though. I jush wish they would have made the switch on another bandwave.

The dj's on DC101 DID say they were going off the air, but they didn't know when, just that they were on the list to go latino.

In some areas Clear Channel the leader of radio stations has set forth to turning atleast 30 stations into Hispanic only stations. They have already done such a move in Texas taking rock stations, some with 30+ years of service into Hispanic stations. Btw there are somewhere around 40+ ethnic stations there already.

One local station here in VA, is DC101 that is supposely slot for this chance. This unlike perhaps some of the Texas stations in it is not a failing station. 101 is known throughout the Metro area for setting up concerts, fund raisers and sports related activites; often for free. Yet despite this they are slotted for chance, which also consist of firing the whole staff.

Whats everyones thoughts on this:
-Taking popular stations and converting it to Hispanic; or as they put it Spanglish stations.
They're taking DC101 off? WTF? I hate ClearChannel. I hate them so much. Almost as much as I hate hippies.

Hadn't heard a confirm yes or no, but yes they are on the list but will they actually go through with it.

btw DC101 raises close to 12,000 for the National Center of Missing Childern last night with a scavanger hunt in the Internation Spy Museum. And that is just one event of which they do every week/month. There are so many empty potentional stations around here that they could get the rights for.

It is sad. It is just a way Rich people can get cheap labor. They do not want to learn english so we cater to them. Total outcome they are lazy we will pay them 5.25 instead of what an american can do for more than half the cost.

Society being control by the wealthy is what is f--king the usa. I spent all this money to go to college and the field I went into is being either shipped over to India for cheap labor or there is such a large group of people that went to college for it.

I just blame the rich man........

DC101 is the s*** next to 991.HFS. I say turn 95.5 to spanish.......I still remeber when 95.5 was an oldie station back in early 1980's. I remeber WAVA with don and mike now it is christian. 99.1 was the best before forgot his name sold it to infinity. Now that guy runs 103.1. Which is out of Annapolis..........

All told, Clear Channel is teh evilness.

I lost faith in the (Houston) radio system when CC took over what was then 107.5 The Buzz and switched frequencies on me. Then, bout a year later, thay shitcan the best morning show (Steve and Jeff) and replace it with some canned outsourced DJs from Tennessee until they got replacements for Houston.

It sucks.

MediaGeek's report on Clear Channel's **** of the radio industry
This is a good read.

yeah, same thing happened over here in la...there was this trance/dance station 103.1 and it has become a hispanic only station...oh well, thats y i have my ipod hooked up in my car...

Didnt read the whole thread, so dont know if this has been posted already, but ....

Clear Channel = Satan!

IMHO

Being a hispanic from Houston area I didn't like the Rock 101 change I feel there is enough spanish stations. I like heavy metal, rock and some rap, but 101 didn't have too much going for them anymore. The morning show Walton & Johnson sucked, Loc was stupid, the only good DJ' they had was Outlaw Dave & Steve Fix. Now Steve Fix is at 93.7 the Arrow & you can still here mandatory Metallica on 94.5 the buzz at 10PM.
