When I left Houston, there were basically 2 rock stations I knew of, 101.1 and something else. lol. I forgot, been here for long enough. Anyways, 101 was extremely popular with the male segment of the population. With the loss of 101, there is now like 1 rock/alternative station in houston. It seriously sucks. And i'm sad to hear that 101 in DC will go the same way eventually, I heard that whole broadcast when they were discussing 101 in houston getting shut down and was dumbfounded. It is evidently the 27th hispanic oriented station in houston metro. So we get 1 or 2 rock stations and 27 hispanic oriented stations? Sorry, but I dont' like latino music. I wasn't too fond of 101, the dj's were kind of crude for me, but it was the metallica station, very similar to 101 here.REMillers said:Just wondering, how popular were those stations?
Now thats some funny s***!!(lol2) (rofl)With no notice other than its final song -- Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio" --
The dj's on DC101 DID say they were going off the air, but they didn't know when, just that they were on the list to go latino.REMillers said:Ok that one sucks, but seems understandable. But DC101 isn't a old rock, or metal station. They play alot of music that is currently selling heavily in stores, arghh wish they would hurry up and just say if they or are not.
But that is exactly what they did in Texas, the radio people showed up for work to see a "Mexican" party style going on to find out they were fired.![]()
They're taking DC101 off? WTF? I hate ClearChannel. I hate them so much. Almost as much as I hate hippies.REMillers said:In some areas Clear Channel the leader of radio stations has set forth to turning atleast 30 stations into Hispanic only stations. They have already done such a move in Texas taking rock stations, some with 30+ years of service into Hispanic stations. Btw there are somewhere around 40+ ethnic stations there already.
One local station here in VA, is DC101 that is supposely slot for this chance. This unlike perhaps some of the Texas stations in it is not a failing station. 101 is known throughout the Metro area for setting up concerts, fund raisers and sports related activites; often for free. Yet despite this they are slotted for chance, which also consist of firing the whole staff.
Whats everyones thoughts on this:
-Taking popular stations and converting it to Hispanic; or as they put it Spanglish stations.
Hadn't heard a confirm yes or no, but yes they are on the list but will they actually go through with it.Chilly said:The dj's on DC101 DID say they were going off the air, but they didn't know when, just that they were on the list to go latino.
