some one please tell me there is a good reason not to buy the $12 ebay short throws... the price is so appealing... i just want to!

Auction link?

I haven't seen or used one of these (and can't find one with a quick search) so I can't say for sure but a $12 eBay shifter just seems like a really bad idea.

if you really wanna find out if this is good or not, then you should buy it, hehe. Be the test pig, lol. Thats if you dont mind spending 12 bucks.

Although, I really like my TWM short shifter/knob combo.

yeah, for $28 Shipped, go for it!

I love my Kartboy combo though I paid $128 shipped for.......

I agree, if you can afford to risk 28 bucks, go for it.
You won't find any others for half that, unless it's used.

You get what you pay for. Keep in mind the lower part of that shifter is hanging in the open under the car, subject to whatever the weather/road throws at it. Most of the ones I have seen on eBay are aluminum, not known for its ability to resist corrosion. Personally I think you are better off saving for a B&M (my favorite), TWM or Kartboy. You should also spring for the Kartboy shift bushings no matter which shifter you buy, it tightens things up nicely.

chiefmg has spoken the truth, hehe.

As far as the kartboy shifter bushings....yea definetly get them. Its like night and day if comparing the shifting with stock and kartboy bushings.

I say go for it. I know 2 people with the ebay shortshifters in their p5's. They do just fine. But I love my kartboy.

02PROTEGE2.0: Beware of short shifters made of aluminum, I've seen lots of Aluminum Honda shifters break at the base of the threads and they have the same thread diameter, 10mm, as Mazda.

If you want a part that is guaranteed for life and made of steel, check out our
Mazda Protege short shifters, they're on sale this month. You can SAVE UP TO $40 on the short shifter and shift knob combos, or SAVE $20 on the short shifter itself.

As always, you can add a short shift boot and polyurethane bushings to the package as well.

Don't forget to join the newsletter and save an extra 5% on top of the sale price, and students and members of the military can save 10% more if you visit this link: TWM Student and Military Discounts

Always a pleasure man! Great products!!! That is probably THE best mod I've ever done. Oh and did I mention it was THE 1st thing I've done to my car? hehe

Props back at ya Kevin!!!

what about a short thow
without reaching down to the floor
to find the shifter...thats just counter productive

i want a short throw with the stock hight
who makes that
someone needs to come up with a part that's
truly short throw and not just a cut-down stock geometry
shifter

i'ld buy that

why would you want stock height short throw shifter? I really REALLY doubt that there is a company that offers "short throw" stock height shifters.

know hes not crazy...
before i was a pro fanatic i was very into mustangs...

they have short throw shifters that are mechanical mini machines, nopt jsut shorter pieces of metal, and used many small mechanical parts

they were able to shorten the throw to only an inch or two... rpetty amazing...

and the top of the shifter would sit at the same height as stock

This makes sense, and I think that these aftermarket ones do reduce throw, but they come shortened as well--for appearance purposes, I guess.

i definently agree that the ones on the market for our cars do what they're supposed to... and im not saying that the height matters to me... haha... and DIS i always respect anothe ropinion =) but yea... i was just syaing hes not crazy... i think the ones i was talkign about are a little more effective... but they also cost about as much as ur average turbo back exhaust...

and if u drive a protege... u want to save money... =)

i'm hi-jaking here i think...sorry

i guess my thing is i shift alot
(curvy roads and close gear ratios)

few of us are proably profesional racecar drivers
but what racecar have you seen with the stick on the floorboards
it's always extended high-up by the steering wheel so you don't have to
reach so far to change gears

thats why stock hight/short throw would be so much more ideal
