Short Shifters - Which Is Best? Your Experiences Please...

Hi all, I was just wondering which short shifters have you installed, and which do you think are best. I'm considering the B&M or the TWM shifter. Either way I will get the Kartboy bushings for them. I was considering the Kartboy shifter as well, but I want to keep my stock knob, and the Kartboy won't fit it.

Ideas? Comments? :D

I have the B&M....its a GREAT piece....VERY VERY well made....I personally don't think you can go wrong with it.

MP3BEN,

I don't have any problems with the TWM and your stock knob will fit. The kartboy bushing is a must.

If you do a search, I think there are some comparison (pros, cons).

We did a review on the product: http://toprotege.com/reviews/twm-short-shifter/

Ben.....they are in Canada, so you won't have to worry about duty and taxes. That is a huge bonus.

Kartboy bushings regardless of whatever short shifter you buy are essential. They make the shifts much snappier and firmer, they even help with the rugged 1-2 shift.

I'm partial to the Kartboy stuff all the way around. Shifter, bushings and knob.

MP3Ben,

I have the B&M and I love it in combination with the KartBoy bushings. I also have some SRD bronzeoil bushings that replace the plastic "inserts" at the bottom of the shift lever and on the transmission side(I have not installed them yet). Okay long answer, but you will have to change your knob with the B&M. It has the "regular" size and thread as all other Mazdas and doesn't fit the MP3 knob.

hey wait a second I thought that I read that you couldn't use the kartboy bushings with the B&M. Is that true. Any of you guys get the wobble or movement in the shifter after you installed your short shifters and bushings?????

I did get wobble, but only because I missed installing a part. After doing it right the second time around, everything shifted just fine.

Kartboy bushings are installed on a seperate rod linkage and not near the B&M short shifter, so they can go together. Works great. Kartboy Bushing is a pretty good product.

I have the TMW shifter and I don't have one complaint! Not only that but the stock knob screws right on. I had a momo knob on prior and the damn thing kept working loose. I also installed the kartboy bushings, it was well worth the money.

If I were you.....go kartboy. They are extensivley involved in this forum, and they are holding a raffle currently in the raffle section!
If you ever needed customer suport they would be right here for ya.

I can't wait til I get my Kartboy. We even have the B&M's in stock. But based on our "consumer reports" hehe, which I'm sure will weigh heavily towards Kartboy, we most likely will be carrying the kartboy for p5 specific applications. Bang for buck.

I have the B&M too and VERY satisfied. Same problem with my MoMo knob, kept getting loose until I used Loctite on the 3 set screws.

Are Kartboy bushings available in Canada?
