Shocks need replacing?

Hi guys, I am back with another question!

I have an '03 P5, and a couple of days ago I noticed that my car was a making some craking noises, seemed to be coming fomr the front. When I parked, I go tout and pushed up and down on the drivers front side of the hood and it made the sound. It semed to make it also a little on other corners, but not as loud. The strange thing is that when I went back to the car a day later, it wasn't making that sound anymore, even when I pushed up and down.

Today it did it again a little bit, but I really didn't drive that much. It was sitting out in the sun though.

Does anybody have any ideas what this could be? Shocks? I have already had the front struts done (I think both). Could it be something simple? Could the tension be off? I am not sure, but I think it when the problem is occuring, the car seems a little bouncier (if you know what I mean) in the front end.

Thanks in advance for all your help, much appreciated.

When you go over a speed bump or bumps, does it sound like liquid swooshing? If you notice oil on the top of your strut housing or within your wheel well, you probably blew a strut.

Hey, no swooshing sound, no oil on the strust housing or wheel well.

What else could it be? And why is it intermittent?

I have similar intermitant creeks and clunks. I've tried to investigate but the problem is not severe enough for me to induce it while the car is parked. I've tried to move the wheel when the front is jacked to check strut mounts. I've tried to rock the car back and forth to check swaybar bushings.

I've concluded that the problem is minor wear of everything (lower A-arm bushings, strut mounts, swaybar) in the front. No single item is responsible, and since the clunk is intermittent its not worth it to just start replacing things.

I probably will replace the strut mounts when I replace the struts. I've also subscribed to a thread about Poly Bushings but we've yet to see if those fit the P5. Stay tuned...

DeadGeneration : heat up some bearing grease until its liquid enough to fit into a spray bottle and go nuts

LOLL 5$ well spent :D
