I ordered something from a web site, included 15 shipping. Now after i recieved the product, 2 months later i get his notice from Fedex saying i owe 72.53 because for canada customs, WTF? this is so ****** up, if i knew i need to pay and extra 72 bucks i woulda never bought from there. So is this for real? Do i pay? are they goin to send another notice saying i have to pay again? i hate this, i can't pay off everything right now.

If you called Fedex and told them the whole story and even had proof that you only paid 15 for shipping, then you'd be okay I would think. Good luck. Call them though, :)

That's odd, all the past shipment I have received the courier would not release the item to you until you paid the brokerage fees and duties...and yes they charge a s*** load for their service. Never ever get anything shipped to Canada by a courier as they got you by the balls. I just ship stuff to Blaine and pick it up there. Just get a drop point which will cost about 15.00 a year and they charge you a small fee depending on the size of the package.

it's called customs and duties - applies to almost anything that crosses the border into canada that you bought from the US.

shipping is just to pay for the shipping.

they also collect the GST and PST as well (on top of the customs and duties).

as well, there will be a service charge because a company put up the customs and duties up front to get the package across the border in the first place. they charge a service charge for this and pass it onto you.

if you don't pay, they're probably send a collection agency after you. but not sure about that.

Yah.... when I ship something over I always request the company to reduce the listed price and mark it as a gift to reduce duty. I believe if its a gift you can bring in up to $60 CDN free of charge otherwise its $20 CDN free of charge.

Most of the time I'll ship it to just across the border then run down to pick it up if its a hefty charge.

However, this one time I decided to mail it to my door. I got burned... the duty and tax was $6 CDN and the freakin brokerage charge from UPS was $18. What a rip off.... next time I'm using registered mail or simple normal mail. I don't believe there's a brokerage fee for that.

those brokerage fees letters from Fedex?

Nah man you dont have to worry about them...... they just send it ... they dont really care if they get anything back....... i've had 2 letters from them already from 2 different shipments .... i "supposedly" owe them around 70 bucks......

I never paid a penny ...... its been a year now .... they dont care..

I got a notice because I sold something to a guy in Canada and he refused to pay the customs fee's. Total was about $85. Its been a few months and no sign of them, so I wouldnt worry about it. I just ship UPS from now and and try not to do anything out of the US.
