alright, so tonight i stop at a stop light, take off hit maybe 3,500rpms in 1st and then went to shift into 2nd and NOTHING!, so i shifted to third and continued on, went to shift into 4th and Nothing. So shifted to 5th and continued once more and used 1st, 3rd, and 5th, to make it back here. Reverse is also gone. So all my bottom gears are not available. The shifter will nto attempt to shift into them. Any ideas as to what it could be? any help would be great

Did it not want to go in, or did the gear stick go to the right spot and not engage the gear? May be a bent selector fork, although I'm not much up on gearbox know how.

it jsut wont even attempt to go into gear i pull down from neutral it instantly it hits a "wall"

i dont think its the synchros because it doesnt grind at all

even when you put in neutral or other gears after 1st gear, does it engage the clutch or it feels like it's in neutral? If it engages could it possibly be stuck in 1st? That's weird....how many miles are on your car?

Thats exactly what is happening to my car. I can get into 1st,3rd, and 5th. All the other gears forget about it. It really does feel like its hittin a wall when you try to put it in 2nd, 4th, and reverse.

I have 51K on my car.

Im going to see if my Kartboy polyeurathane shifter bushing cracked. If not its going into the dealer.

I have 63K miles on it. Its not stuck in first and it has been working normal lately. It happened twice this weekend again, however. It is currently at Aamco unfortunately. I'm having the tranny taken apart and inspected and replace anything broken. They checked it out last week and said they didnt think it was the linkage, but it could be. It seems to be more of a problem like with a bent or mis-aligned shift fork. I will let you guys know what is found this thursday or friday when I get the car back.

So far the bill is at $450 just to have it taken out and dismantled and put back together. Then the price of parts that may need to be replaced. They could only find one used transmission, which was located in canada for $1,500USD, and nothing in the New England area.

Hopefully she is back and running well again soon.

Just got off the phone with Aamco, something in the differential broke off and was preventing it from shifting. They are getting me an estimate as to how much that is going to be to replace. Anyone have any idea how much a worse case senario it could cost me?

Alright, so looking around I found that at protegegarage.com they have the mazdaspeed limited-slip diferentials for $599 would this LSD work with my transmission, or is it only designed to work with the FS trannsmissions? Also, I guess this problem made me aware of it self a little bit ago, If anyone remembers my post of a metal on metal clunking sound that was speed dependant and was comign from the center of the car up front.

Ok they said its goign to be $2,400 jsut to replace the differential?!? Thats jsut parts, no labor...does that seem a bit rediculous?

Well, im just having Aamco put in a used tranny $1,700 total, and another week or more without the car...So sad...

ouch...

You know, its not that tough to drop out the tranny, as long as you have some general mechanical knowledge and the right tools. theres even a how-to, although its for an msp, but it pretty much the same. you could save yourself 1000bucks...

well at least 1700 is better than 2400, i guess...

well the $1700 is just for the transmission, idk if they are going to include labor with that or if they are gonna charge me the $450 for labor.

omg that's soooooooo much money for that!! :( I know how it is though, if you're without a car you kinda get stuck and are forced to pay up. >_<

yeah, if i had time and could wait for a cheaper tranny I would or even get it hoem and do it myself if i had the tools and time, but w/e atleast it will be fixed and nothign a few paychecks wont pay for.

Kansei where are you from..I see your part of the NEpoc

got my car back today :)
$1,700 total with a new to me tranny with like 43,000miles on it. Hopefully this one lasts. The differential went in the other one. just glad to have it back finally
