Shifting feels very notchy....

I drove my friends WRX the other day and i noticed that it shifts a hell of alot smoother then my car..... when im shifting say 1st gear into 2nd the shifter gives me a hard time going into gear .. not to hard but just enough to get you annoyed... maybe it's the B&M shifter I have... I read on a stang 5.0 forum once that a guy had installed his B&M and complained of the same notchy feeling... could it be the shifter or do i need a better gear oil for the tranny?????

I've driven both an Impreza RS and WRX and both shift smoother. It's largely due to the fact that both have significantly longer-throw shifters than the MP3 does, and especially longer than the aftermarket short-throws. Just going from the stock shifter on my MP3 to my TWM+Kartboy bushings made the notch a LOT more pronounced (esp. between 1st and 2nd). Still nice and slick though.

A lot of it is probably in Mazda's transmissions. My old 1994 Protege was pretty notchy as well ... even with the 12 mile long shifter it had.

I haven't tried any different transmission fluid so I can't help any there, but I've heard going all synthetic helps.

redline synthetic trans oil will help a bunch. at least in my mind it worked.

The shifting on the stock Mp3 also feels kinda rough. 2nd gear is prolly one of the gears that gives me the most trouble. Weather it be down shifting or up shifting, i have to froce it into gear. It pisses me off. I've already misshifted too many times because of that.

I used to cuss at my tranny every day for the porr shift qualities,but as I get more miles on my car it seems to be smoothing out a lot!I hope this will be the case with all of your trannies!

i hate my tranny:

1st gear - pull up to a light in neutral, light gos green, i push clutch to floor and shift into first GRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNNDDDD. wtf?
2nd gear- feels once again like cltuch does not engage and i have to try a couple of times to get it into 2nd.
3rd grinds sometimes for no reason
4th and 5th are fine except 4th gear doesn't pull at all.
my car is a bia to get into reverse.

Note: i have a twn short shifter and bushings, im also on my seocnd motor mount, only other mod is a aem short ram.

This is one of my minor pet peeves also. I usually have to start in 2nd and wait . . . . . . . . . . . . all day . . . . . . . . . . . till it starts to pull

I have left my knob and bushings stock and have had no problems, plus I drive like an old lady really slow, so my car isnt even broken in yet

To be honest so far my tranny is ok... it just doesn't grab when it needs to. As for fourth, it pulls for me :-D. I was able to get away from an Integra LS.... close race, beat it by less than half a car length.... scarry......

umm.....my tranny has had the same problems for a while now, and now it is leaking some oil based material with metal shavings in it, so my tranny is chewing something up.....if you are having those problems, you might want to get that checked out before it is to late
