Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone else has the aluminum part of their shifter get little dents and nicks in it? I am VERY careful about my car but can't seem to figure out what is causing this. I previously had a Civic Si and the same thing occurred with the metal part of that shifter as well. I'm thinking my hand seeps acid or something!!!

Hmm...this doesn't seem to happen to me. Are you wearing a ring or something?

Aluminum isn't exactly the best anti-scuff material on the planet...just look at aluminum rims after a few months of use...a pit here a scratch there even if you didn't curb it or anything...it's just the nature of the metal...lightweight yes it is...durable...meh(shrug)

I have the same issue. Same with my aluminum knob from my wrx, mx-5 and ms3. It sucks! Theres nothing to do about it except get a different knob. I like the silver carbon autoexe one!

I had the same thing as well - had it replaced originally because it came like that, I never wear jewelry, let alone rings. Scratched up again :(

No use, just replace with something that won't scratch as easily if you're that bugged

mine has it from my fiance's rings, it pissed me off at 1st but just gunna replace it with another one once i find one i like.

My MS3 came with 70 kms and I got it for 6 grand cheaper. Only problem was that it had those nicks and dents, a lot of em in the shifter. I didn't mind but always wondered how there was so many

the silver atop the shift knob is clear coated aluminum, it's not bare aluminum. the clear coat can get knicked and scratched just like anything that is coated.

i never had any issues with mine until my fiance broke the wrap for my laptop cable and when i transported it one day the plug dropped and knicked the knob. i replaced it at a cost of 195 bucks. i wasnt happy about that but the knick was pretty bad and annoying.

if you don't wear jewelry, and don't let anything come near the knob other than your hand, it's impossible for it to really get scratched, unless maybe you have dirt on your hand and you are dragging pieces of sand or dirt around the clear coat as you hold it and shift.

the Si knob as someone mentioned is also susceptible to this type of damage but i believe it's not cleared so it can be polished out a bit.

oh ! everyone is having this problem ..... I Originally thought the dealer threw it on the floor when they replaced the transmission and kicked it around a little because they hate me . I guess I was wrong .

Mine too. Noticed it on my friend's MS6, and although I wasnt aware my skin is so sharp, its scratchin it up good.

Good morning everyone.

I had my shift knob replaced under warranty yesterday because the entire top section, where the aluminum and numbers are, came loose and fell off. Only 3000 miles on the car. Maybe It was just a fluke.

Yup, mine has a handful of scratches on the right side from my class ring.
When I noticed that I stopped wearing it on my right hand.
