Okay, firstly Shifter Bushings are meant to remove "slopp" from the shifter. The validity of just how effective upgrading the stock rubber bushings to metal is the question.
So, my personal dilemma was as follows: I bought a stage one short shifter without bushings, and craved more.. 6 months later, I have bought bushings.
do JBR (25 bucks shipped), no need to do anything from TWM or whatever, same stuff. Also, always better to support the smaller guys
, better service too!
I installed the bushings in about 30-40 minutes, the only issue being the heated seats wire, which can be a pain to unclip. Also, the top left screw for the shifter cage sits under a pulley, so it was a little PITA (in sure pulley can be unhooked, but laziness persevered). The install is easy, and should not be considered anything harder than an oil change: Remove console, unscrew bushings, reinstall (JBR instructions onlinehttp://www.jamiesplanet.com/support/Shifter_Bushing_Install_6.pdf
So, here we go.... They actually do improve the feel of the shift. While they are not some miraculous upgrade, they do only cost 25 bucks. The shifts feel a bit more precise and the shifter doesn't move as much when giggling it in neutral.
From what I have seen, the bushings help a bit. Claims from users who rave about them being amazing usually stems from an install consisting of both a Short Shifter and bushings combo, which will obviously be better. Doing a bushings install after my short shifter has shown the TRUE effectiveness, and therefore, I say BUY.
