Shift knob from MAZDA3 s 5-Door

:
SOLD 2002 Protege5; Current 2008 CX-9 Grand Touring
Anyone know if a black leather shift knob from a 2004 MAZDA3 s 5-Door would fit a 2002 Mazda Protege5?

If so, anyone have one for sale?

What does it look like? I just bought a Karboy knob and I like it, though I wish it were leather wrapped....

Thanks. It looks really nice. Curious how it works with the shift boot. Anyone think that there will be any problems?

Update -

I just spoke with the Mazda dealer and they inform me that this knob is a NO GO for a P5. Different threads. Oh well.

What do they know. There are a few individuals from miata.net that have bought and installed the knob into thier Miata. And, like I said, if it fits a Miata it will fit a Protege. (I have a (Team VooDoo) Miata knob in mine!)

OMG....why didn't someone bring this up before? I may return my Kartboy now :D

Does the "ring" come with it? Is it part of the knob?

This is the Mazda3 knob in a Miata, correct?

The dealer says it will fit a Miata, but not a 2002 Protege5.

You are certain that the threading and diameter on a Miata is the same as the 2002 Protege5? I know that the MSP and MP3 have different threads.

Step 1: Go do Mazda Dealer
Step 2: Identify Mazda3 5-speed
Step 3: Sit in Mazda3 5-speed, proceed to remove knob to saleperson's shock.
Step 4: Tell them that they're morons and have them follow you.
Step 5: Walk to your idling Protege5. Remove old knob.
Step 6: Attempt to install Mazda3 knob.
Step 7: Confirm that knob is firmly installed.

I'm going to do this later if I can......

MSPs and the Protege5 have the same threads. MP3s are different.

OK guys, went down to my dealer just now, took a knob off a 3, and it fit perfectly on my 02 P5. Did it ever look nice. The silver collar comes off with the 3 knob, and fits ohhh so nice:D
$233 was the price quoted(boom01)

DAMN! So is the Miata identical? Sounds like another trip back to the dealer slamdp5 :D.......I'd rather pay $65 than $233 (that f'in nuts!!!)

That's not the knob from a Miata. It's from the Mazda6 and the Mazda3. Finish Line has it listed under their Miata section but that's only because it's starting to be popular with the Miata folk.

Your dealer quoted you $233 because they take you for a moron.
