I purchased a stage 1 spool kit 2nd hand new off of rodslinger on the forums...

amid to having to run to the hardwarestore many times we finally got the kit installed and the car is running somewhat

my problem is that my car is burning copious ammounts of oil.
esp at idle... and cruising...

it burned a half quart of oil in a 20 mile drive...

does anyone have any idea why my car could be burning this much oil...

i can see oil seeping out of the manifold to the head... my car never had this problem before...

i checked the compressor side of the turbin wheel and there is oil on the intake side...

also i saw oil seeping out at the manifold to exhaust housing flange it is running down the exhaust housing of the turbo....

i would appreciate any of your assistance..

the plugs were pulled today and there was ZERO oil on the plugs...

it has something to do with the turbo or something in that area..

ok.

you're all clear on engine codes too?

(no CEL) u know though if you are throwing any codes

maybe some seals are bad on the turbo? maybe just a thought, Check your Oil lines also maybe a leak somehwere

Make sure the oil return line (the one going from the turbo to oilpan) has a straight path and doesn't have any tight bends. If that is ok, then the problem is on the turbo seals.

I would guess it is an oil return line problem if it is a brand new turbo.

well there is a slight ammount of play on the compressor wheel...

we are using a an6 size return line ... is this too small?

"Stock" Spool return line is a -10 (or 1/2" NPT)!
As Juan responded, make sure it is as short and a straight as possible. Do not have any "restrictions" that would slow down the flow. After the oil goes through the turbo it is pretty "frothed" up, and doesn't flow that well, so make it easy.

As for oil from between the head and the manifold. . . :wtf:

there is a lot of oil on the exhaust and intake side of the turbo...

is this blowby from the seals or is the seals bad?

if the turbo is bad would garrett cover this under warrany or do i need to buy a new turbo??

well i pulled the wastegate and the oil is concentrated around the exhaust housing.. everything else in the manifold is clean..

quite possible... but 3/8" i.d. would be sufficient imho... try removing it and checking for obstructions in the hose. we make our own high pressure hoses (usually with JIC fittings on them) where I work and its not uncommon.

CAN I ask a stupid question here? But do you have a PIC. Just curious to see that the TURBO is clocked properly. Also. Try cleaning every thing up and start again. A small leak from the inlet fitting will cause raw OIL to spew, But if you say you are burning it? Then you have a seal problem. Dont laugh , some people here have installed their turbos upside down.
Feed line should be on top and return should be directly below. PARALLEL to the head.
The return line should only be about 12-14 inches long.
Take a pic and we can help some more.

That turbo has never been in use. I never got around to installing the kit. But I do remember a thread about using a lot of oil or burning oil. It had something to do with the supply pressure to the turbo being too high at idle. I think someone came up with a fix by putting a restrictor in the oil supply line. Anyone remember this?

Yes, BUT I also remember that the Turbos didnt come PRE clocked. Causing some problems for members. ASK Igdrasil;)

yeah, if the pressure is too high, then its easy to fix... a snubber is easy to make or buy. but if it is like Perf says then who knows how bad a ride you are in for.

yeah..that was me, I installed the turbo with the return line on top and got some serious oil-burning problem
